Job Overview:
The Consultant (Photographer/Video Maker) will play a crucial role in supporting the 'Weaving the City: Planning with a Participatory Approach' project, which focuses on improving the quality of life in Juiz de Fora through participatory methodologies. The consultant will be responsible for producing high-quality photographic and audiovisual materials that document project activities, including workshops and key milestones. This position requires close collaboration with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to ensure that all materials align with the project's objectives and communication standards. The consultant will also be tasked with creating an institutional video that encapsulates the project's goals and outcomes, thereby contributing to the broader mission of promoting sustainable urban development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant (Photographer/Video Maker) will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing high-quality photographic and audiovisual coverage of in-person workshops and key project milestones, ensuring materials are suitable for both digital dissemination and printed graphic materials.
  • Recording, producing, editing, and delivering audiovisual materials from workshops and interviews, including adding descriptive subtitles and integrating visual elements that align with the project’s visual identity.
  • Ensuring technical quality and consistency across all photographic and audiovisual production, maintaining an organized multimedia archive of all final and raw files.
  • Utilizing their own licensed software and audiovisual equipment, assuming full responsibility for any related costs or damages.
  • Completing all required courses and training activities as indicated by the supervisor, including the mandatory BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS.
  • Documenting key milestones of the initiative, which may involve field visits to project-related locations and urban landmarks, producing photographic records, and conducting interviews with participants and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Photography, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Film Studies, or related fields. Alternatively, candidates with an additional three years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirement will also be considered. A minimum of three years of professional experience in video editing and production is required, along with a portfolio that demonstrates relevant skills. Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or equivalent is essential, as well as basic skills in graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop. Experience with the UN or other international agencies is desirable, particularly in producing content for projects focused on gender, inclusion, and community engagement.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Photography, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Film Studies, or related fields is required. Candidates with additional relevant experience may substitute for formal education. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in visual storytelling and communication strategies, which are critical for the role of a Consultant (Photographer/Video Maker).

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in video editing and production. Candidates should have a proven track record of producing audiovisual content for institutional projects, participatory initiatives, workshops, or community-based activities. Experience in recording and editing content that addresses gender and inclusion issues, as well as working with diverse or marginalized communities, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Brazil. Working knowledge of Spanish and English is desirable, given that English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office. Proficiency in these languages will facilitate effective communication within the multicultural environment of UN-Habitat.

Additional Notes:
The consultant will be appointed on a local basis, and only nationals from Brazil or external candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The contract is part-time (40%) and is expected to last for six months. The total remuneration for the consultant is BRL 15,690, distributed across five payment milestones based on the delivery and approval of specific products. The consultant must be available for travel related to project activities, with travel costs covered by UN-Habitat according to United Nations travel rules. The extension of the contract is contingent upon the availability of funds and performance, and any extension is not guaranteed.
