Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in leading, coordinating, and overseeing the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities assigned to them. This position requires a strong focus on ensuring technical quality, operational coherence, and the achievement of intended results. The Project Coordinator will work under the supervision of the FAO Representative in Sudan and will collaborate closely with the Office of Emergencies and Resilience (OER), the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE), and other relevant FAO technical divisions. The role demands a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that all components of the project are implemented in alignment with FAO’s Strategic Framework, donor requirements, and national priorities. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for fostering strong relationships with various stakeholders, including government institutions, youth organizations, financial service providers, UN partners, and the private sector, to promote synergies and sustainability in project outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing leadership and mentoring to project personnel and implementing partners, ensuring high-quality and results-oriented implementation of all project components, acting as the focal point for coordination with other implementing partners, compiling and submitting timely project reports, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, leading the preparation and periodic updating of annual work plans and procurement plans, supervising national affiliate personnel specialists across various components, coordinating tasks of international affiliate personnel specialists, providing oversight and quality assurance for technical deliverables, ensuring strong collaboration with government institutions and other stakeholders, overseeing the mainstreaming of gender equality and environmental sustainability, managing the preparation and clearance of Letters of Agreement and contracts, coordinating monitoring and evaluation efforts, facilitating documentation of lessons learned, and representing FAO in relevant coordination fora and thematic working groups.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: an advanced university degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Rural Development, or a related field; at least 10 years of relevant international experience in managing multi-stakeholder agricultural development, resilience, and livelihoods projects, particularly focusing on youth employment and private-sector engagement; and a working knowledge (Level C) of English. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields related to agriculture, agricultural economics, agribusiness, rural development, or similar disciplines. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage and coordinate complex agricultural projects.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of relevant international experience in managing agricultural development projects, particularly those that involve multiple stakeholders and focus on resilience and livelihoods. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in complex operational environments and should be familiar with the challenges and dynamics of agricultural development, especially in fragile or post-crisis contexts.
