Job Overview: The Communication Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and effectiveness of FAO's initiatives in Sudan. This position involves designing, developing, and implementing communication strategies that align with the FAO's Country Programming Framework (CPF) and its regional and global priorities. The specialist will be responsible for creating communication materials that highlight FAO's efforts in promoting food security, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource management. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and academic institutions, to ensure effective dissemination of information regarding FAO's projects and achievements. The Communication Specialist will also manage social media channels and ensure compliance with FAO's communication standards and guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: designing and implementing a communications strategy for the country office; preparing communication materials such as project factsheets, articles, and social media messages; developing and disseminating visibility products; supporting project teams with sector-specific communication needs; sharing information on project activities with stakeholders; representing FAO in inter-agency communication meetings; preparing press releases; facilitating media interviews; organizing media coverage of events; maintaining relationships with media; and ensuring compliance with FAO communication guidelines. Additionally, the specialist will manage social media channels, develop digital assets, and monitor social media trends and compliance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Journalism, Communication, media relations, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications is required. The candidate should have a working knowledge of English (Level C), and knowledge of Arabic or another FAO official language is considered an asset. Nationality of Sudan is also a requirement for this position.
Educational Background: The position requires a university degree in a relevant field such as Journalism, Communication, or media relations. Candidates must have their qualifications recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in communications, demonstrating proven experience in communicating project results and familiarity with various communication tools, including digital platforms and social media. Experience in managing media relations and organizing communication events is also essential.
Languages: A working knowledge of English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic or another FAO official language is considered an asset. Proficiency in Arabic is particularly beneficial for adapting digital assets for social media channels.
