UNDP operates in over 170 countries, leveraging its extensive regional presence and expertise to drive initiatives that bridge policy gaps and accelerate digital adoption. The Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS), headquartered in Amman, oversees the Regional Programme and supports 18 country offices across the Arab region. UNDP is committed to sustainable, inclusive, and future-smart development, with a focus on strengthening resilience, digital and green transitions, and social cohesion. The organization emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, encouraging applications from marginalized populations and ensuring a fair and equitable work environment.

Job Overview:
The intern position at UNDP is designed to support the effective delivery of the Regional Programme for Arab States (2026–2029). The intern will focus on programme management support, knowledge management and research, and partnership building and communication. This role is crucial for assisting the Regional Programme Team in coordinating and monitoring projects and initiatives, as well as contributing to the development of knowledge products for both internal and external audiences. The intern will engage in desk-based research on thematic issues relevant to the programme, assist in preparing reports and communication materials, and support the organization of programme activities and events. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international organization while contributing to meaningful development initiatives in the Arab region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Knowledge Management & Research: Collecting lessons learned and best practices from regional projects, conducting desk-based research on thematic issues such as inclusive growth and governance, supporting the preparation of reports and briefs, and contributing to the development of knowledge products.
  • Partnership Building & Communication: Assisting in the preparation of partnership briefs, presentations, and communication materials, identifying and engaging with prospective partners, and supporting the preparation of partnership proposals and outreach events.
  • Programme Management Support: Coordinating and monitoring projects and initiatives under the Regional Programme, organizing programme activities and events, and providing support to the Results-Based Management specialist in maintaining programme monitoring and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme in media studies, journalism, communications, information systems, or a related field; (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in the same fields; (c) Have recently graduated with a university degree in the specified fields and must start the internship within one year of graduation; (d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program in the specified fields and undertake the internship as part of this program. Relevant previous experience, particularly in communication and social media, is a plus, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience in supporting web and digital initiatives.

Candidates should be either currently enrolled in a postgraduate program, in their final year of undergraduate studies, or recent graduates who meet the specified criteria. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the communication and research tasks associated with the internship.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for this position is relatively flexible. While relevant previous experience is considered a plus, it is not strictly required. Candidates with experience in communication, social media, and digital initiatives will have an advantage. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, so a willingness to learn and engage with the tasks at hand is crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English, including speaking, writing, and reading, is required for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication and engagement with local partners and stakeholders in the Arab region.

This internship is unpaid, but a stipend will be provided to cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation, if the intern is not financially supported by any institution or program. The stipend amount will be determined based on the duty station's rates. Interns will accrue combined sick and annual leave at the rate of 1 ½ days per month, which will be prorated for part-time internships.
