Job Overview: The Public Information Intern will play a vital role in supporting the Public Information Office (PIO) at UNRWA's Jordan Field Office. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in public information and communications work within a humanitarian and UN context. The intern will assist in various tasks, including content creation for social media platforms, event coverage, research, and administrative support. The position offers an opportunity to engage with the refugee community and contribute to the agency's mission of transparency and effective communication. The intern will work under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and will be involved in editing and scheduling content for UNRWA Jordan's social media, designing visuals, and supporting the coverage of events and activities. Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Social Media Support: The intern will assist in editing and scheduling content for UNRWA Jordan's social media platforms, including Facebook and X/Twitter. They will also help design simple visuals, graphics, and posters using tools like Canva, and support basic photo and video editing for digital platforms.
Field and Event Support: The intern will support the coverage of photographs and short videos during UNRWA activities, events, and field visits as needed.
Research and Drafting Support: The intern will conduct research and gather background information for stories, articles, and communication materials. They will assist in drafting short-form content, captions, and internal updates under the guidance of PIO staff.
General and Administrative Support: The intern will help organize and maintain digital content files and media assets, provide general administrative support to the PIO team, including scheduling, filing, and coordination tasks, and perform other duties as assigned by the Public Information Office team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated (within the past two years) from a university degree program in Communications, Media, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. No prior professional experience is required; however, prior coursework, volunteer experience, or internships in communications, social media, or content creation will be considered an asset. Basic familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools, such as Canva, is preferable. An interest in humanitarian, development, or UN-related work is desirable.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a university degree or be currently enrolled in a degree program related to Communications, Media, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Marketing, or a similar field. Recent graduates within the last two years are also encouraged to apply, as this internship is designed to provide practical experience to those entering the field.
Experience: This internship does not require prior professional experience. However, candidates with relevant coursework, volunteer experience, or internships in communications, social media, or content creation will be viewed favorably.
