Job Overview: The STRIDES director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Director will lead and direct technical focus areas across the STRIDES Activity, which is part of the U.S. government’s Global Healthsecurity" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security program. This position is crucial for enhancing global health security in Bangladesh by aligning technical frameworks, approaches, tools, and activities with relevant guidelines and standards. The Technical Director will be responsible for identifying partnership needs, engaging qualified partners, and ensuring the successful delivery of all technical aspects of the STRIDES activity. This includes overseeing the development of country-specific workplans and budgets, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and managing technical deliverables to meet quality standards. The role also involves collaboration with various teams to support monitoring and evaluation activities, and to promote the successes of the STRIDES initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities: The STRIDES Technical Director will serve as the technical lead and primary contact for relevant topics, providing technical direction for the development of workplans and budgets that align with STRIDES objectives and U.S. government priorities. Responsibilities include ensuring the timely submission of high-quality technical deliverables, directing compliance with STRIDES contracts and government regulations, and responding to client inquiries on technical matters. The Technical Director will also assess subcontractor performance, collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) team to finalize technical indicators, and promote STRIDES successes through various communication channels. Additionally, the role involves supervising technical staff, coordinating across the STRIDES Management Team, and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of contract and project management, as well as technical development practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. The ability to influence and motivate others, exercise judgment in selecting methods for obtaining solutions, and ensure compliance with budgets and performance requirements is critical. Proven leadership and project management skills are necessary, along with critical thinking and analytical skills. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and additional language skills are considered a bonus.
Educational Background: A Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious Disease, Laboratory Science, Health Systems Strengthening, or a related field from a recognized university is required. A Project Management (PM) Certification or a PhD in Public Health is preferred.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 12 years of relevant technical or project management experience, including at least 8 years in leadership roles. Prior experience working with the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Dairy (MoALD), and their respective departments, as well as experience in international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), is preferred. Experience implementing U.S. government-funded contracts is strongly preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Additional language skills are considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: This position is contingent upon funding from the Department of State (DOS). The role may require up to 30% local and regional travel. The work environment is typical of an office setting, with the ability to spend long hours at a computer and perform repetitive tasks.
