Job Overview:
The Local Consultant (Data Processing, Tabulation and Analysis Expert) will play a crucial role in the Bangladesh Gender and Environment Survey (BGES) 2025, which aims to generate gender-disaggregated data to assess the interconnections between gender equality, women's empowerment, and environmental issues in Bangladesh. The consultant will be responsible for leading the data processing, tabulation, and analysis of the survey data, ensuring that all outputs meet national and international statistical standards. This position requires a strong analytical background and the ability to work collaboratively with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and UN Women. The consultant will prepare a detailed work plan, develop a tabulation plan, conduct data analysis, and report findings, contributing to the overall success of the BGES 2025 project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare a comprehensive work plan with clear timelines and deliverables for the BGES 2025 project.
  • Develop and implement a detailed tabulation plan for the survey data, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
  • Conduct thorough data processing and analysis, interpreting results and preparing key findings as directed by the BBS and UN Women.
  • Submit a detailed written report summarizing the work completed at the end of the consultancy period.
  • Ensure proper storage and confidentiality of all data collected, adhering to UN Women’s data protection policies.
  • Collaborate with the Program Analyst and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Maintain transparency and accountability in all data analysis processes, documenting decisions and methodologies used.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Statistics, Social Sciences (such as Economics, Sociology, or Political Science), or Mathematics. A strong background in statistical analysis and data processing is essential, along with proven expertise in handling large-scale household surveys. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of gender, environment, climate change, and disaster statistics, particularly in the context of Bangladesh. Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, CSPro, and R, as well as Microsoft Office applications, is required. Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines are also critical for this role.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Statistics, Social Sciences (including Gender Studies, Economics, Sociology, Political Science), or Mathematics is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical foundation and practical skills needed for effective data analysis and interpretation in the context of gender and environmental statistics.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 15 years of practical experience in official statistical activities, including survey design, tabulation plan preparation, data processing, and analysis. A minimum of 7 years of this experience must be specifically in data processing, tabulation, and analysis related to gender, environment, climate change, and disaster statistics within the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Familiarity with the relevant concepts, methodologies, and institutional experience in conducting surveys in this field is essential. Candidates with experience working on the ECDS Project at BBS will be prioritized.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Bengali (Bangla) is mandatory for this position. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both languages, as the role involves preparing reports and presenting findings to diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy position is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is expected to be full-time. The consultant will not receive daily subsistence allowance (DSA) at the duty station, but travel outside the duty station may be covered by UN Women, with a per-diem provided according to United Nations rates. The consultancy will adhere to UN Women’s policies regarding conduct and ethical standards, ensuring a respectful and inclusive working environment.
