Job Overview: The Resident Coordinator (RC) serves as the highest-ranking representative of the United Nations development system at the country level. The RC is responsible for fostering partnerships with government entities, civil society, and other stakeholders to address national development needs and challenges. Duties and Responsibilities: The Resident Coordinator has a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including representing the UN at high levels of government, leading the UN country team in developing and monitoring the UN Cooperation Framework, and coordinating support to the government. The RC is tasked with conducting context and trend analysis, promoting strategic partnerships, and advocating for the UN's fundamental values. The position requires over 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, including five years in development, human rights, or humanitarian work at the country level. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or in senior inter-agency coordination roles is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong political acumen and the ability to engage with government officials and civil society.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant fields is required. Candidates with a first-level university degree and significant relevant experience may also be considered. Experience: Candidates must have over 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, with at least five years of cumulative experience in development, human rights, or humanitarian work at the country level outside their home country. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator is required, and senior-level inter-agency coordination experience may be considered in lieu of RC experience. Experience in managing multi-sectoral humanitarian programs and engaging with senior government officials is desirable.
Languages: English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
