Job Overview: The position of IC-National Consultant, Sustainable Finance Expert is part of the Biodiversity Finance Programme, which aims to enhance the financial resources available for biodiversity conservation in Yemen. The consultant will be responsible for providing expert advice and support in developing sustainable finance strategies that align with national priorities and international best practices. The role requires a deep understanding of sustainable finance mechanisms, biodiversity conservation, and the socio-economic context of Yemen. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, to facilitate the integration of sustainable finance into national policies and practices. The expected outcome is to create a robust framework that supports biodiversity financing and promotes sustainable development in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Conducting a comprehensive assessment of the current state of biodiversity finance in Yemen, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Developing a sustainable finance strategy that outlines actionable steps for mobilizing financial resources for biodiversity conservation.
Engaging with stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable finance and biodiversity conservation.
Providing technical assistance to government agencies in integrating sustainable finance principles into their policies and programs.
Facilitating workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders on sustainable finance practices.
Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the sustainable finance strategy, providing recommendations for adjustments as necessary.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable finance, environmental economics, or a related field. A proven track record of working on biodiversity finance projects is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and excellent communication skills. Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Yemen and experience working in the region will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of international biodiversity frameworks and financing mechanisms.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in environmental science, finance, economics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in sustainable finance or biodiversity conservation will be advantageous. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant field will be given preference.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of professional experience in sustainable finance, biodiversity conservation, or related areas. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in Yemen or similar contexts is highly desirable. Proven experience in developing and implementing sustainable finance strategies is essential, along with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities in biodiversity financing.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultant's work. Proficiency in other languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This is an individual contractor position with a contract duration of 75 days within one year. The consultant will be expected to work flexibly, with the possibility of remote work depending on the situation in Yemen. The position is open to both national and international candidates. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include travel allowances and other relevant support as per UNDP policies.
