Job Overview: The position of Capacity Development and Resource Mobilization Expert is crucial for facilitating the implementation of a finance solution aimed at financing biodiversity through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives with Banks and Financial Institutions (BFIs) in Nepal. The expert will be responsible for developing strategies and frameworks that enhance the capacity of these institutions to engage in biodiversity financing. This role requires a deep understanding of both the financial sector and biodiversity conservation, as well as the ability to mobilize resources effectively. The expert will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector actors, and civil society organizations, to promote sustainable practices and ensure that financial resources are directed towards biodiversity conservation efforts. The assignment is expected to run from January 2026 to July 2026, during which the expert will be expected to deliver comprehensive reports and recommendations that align with UNDP's mission and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Capacity Development and Resource Mobilization Expert include but are not limited to:
Conducting assessments of the current capacity of Banks and Financial Institutions in Nepal regarding biodiversity financing.
Developing tailored capacity development programs that address identified gaps and enhance the ability of BFIs to engage in CSR related to biodiversity.
Facilitating workshops and training sessions for stakeholders to promote understanding and implementation of biodiversity financing strategies.
Collaborating with UNDP and other partners to design and implement resource mobilization strategies that attract funding for biodiversity initiatives.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of capacity development initiatives and making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations on progress, challenges, and recommendations for future actions.
Engaging with policymakers to advocate for supportive regulatory frameworks that encourage biodiversity financing.
Building partnerships with local and international organizations to leverage additional resources and expertise.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in finance, environmental science, or a related field. A proven track record in capacity development and resource mobilization, particularly in the context of biodiversity or environmental conservation, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are also required, along with a commitment to sustainable development principles. Familiarity with the UNDP's mission and objectives, as well as experience working in Nepal or similar contexts, will be considered an advantage.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in finance, environmental science, sustainable development, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in project management, resource mobilization, or biodiversity conservation will be beneficial. Candidates with relevant academic qualifications from recognized institutions will be preferred.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of professional experience in capacity development, resource mobilization, or related fields. Experience working with financial institutions, particularly in the context of biodiversity financing or CSR, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a history of successful project implementation and stakeholder engagement, as well as familiarity with the challenges and opportunities related to biodiversity conservation in Nepal.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Nepali or other local languages will be considered an asset, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of capacity development initiatives.

The expert will be expected to work full-time during this period, with flexibility in working hours as needed to accommodate stakeholder engagements.
