Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNFPA APRO’s Humanitarian Team by delivering high-quality humanitarian communications throughout 202
  • This position focuses on consolidating and showcasing the results, impact, and learning from Phase III of the Regional Prepositioning Initiative (RPI) and other humanitarian responses. The consultant will be responsible for producing communications and advocacy materials that highlight UNFPA’s humanitarian preparedness, response, and resilience-building efforts across Asia and the Pacific. The role requires a strong emphasis on documenting achievements, good practices, and lessons learned, as well as demonstrating the value for money and impact of UNFPA's initiatives. The consultant will also be tasked with raising awareness about the importance of investing in SRH and GBV services in emergency contexts, advocating for prioritization of these issues, and increasing visibility of UNFPA's humanitarian leadership and partnerships. The position demands creativity, strategic thinking, and the ability to produce compelling multimedia content that resonates with diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Producing multimedia content such as videos, digital assets, and social media products that align with key humanitarian milestones and events.
  • Documenting good practices, lessons learned, and innovations from the RPI Phase III and other humanitarian responses, focusing on preparedness, rapid response, and system-strengthening efforts.
  • Creating human-interest stories and case studies that demonstrate the impact of preparedness and response investments on national governments, civil society organizations, and marginalized populations.
  • Developing visual assets, including photo essays and infographics, that showcase effective humanitarian action and highlight the stories of humanitarian leaders and affected individuals.
  • Providing surge and rapid communications support for sudden-onset or large-scale humanitarian crises, including editorial and messaging support for regional advocacy moments.
  • Conducting field documentation and capacity strengthening missions, subject to access and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security considerations.
  • Collaborating closely with the Regional Humanitarian Advisor, Humanitarian Project Coordinator, and APRO Communications team to ensure alignment with UNFPA's strategic objectives and branding guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this consultancy position include:
  • A Master’s degree or higher in communications, journalism, international affairs, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in humanitarian communications and multimedia production.
  • Strong understanding of UNFPA’s mandate areas, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV), as well as humanitarian preparedness and response.
  • Proven ability to produce compelling, ethical, and human-centered storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Strong writing, editing, design, and multimedia skills, supported by a professional portfolio.
  • Experience working with the UN or international organizations, particularly UNFPA, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with climate-related, disaster risk, or preparedness issues is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in communications, journalism, international affairs, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively communicate complex humanitarian issues and engage with diverse stakeholders.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, specifically in humanitarian communications and multimedia production. This level of experience is crucial for the consultant to navigate the complexities of humanitarian contexts and produce high-quality communications materials that meet the needs of various audiences. Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNFPA and for the majority of stakeholders involved in humanitarian efforts. Additional Notes:
The consultancy is home-based, with the possibility of mission travel depending on security conditions and UNFPA travel policies. The contract duration is from January to December 2026, with a total of up to 102 working days. The consultant will be compensated based on deliverables submitted, and a workplan and delivery monitoring schedule will be agreed upon at the outset of the consultancy.
