Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in enhancing gender data availability and accessibility in Sudan, particularly in humanitarian and conflict settings. The incumbent will contribute technically to the development of program strategies focused on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, with an emphasis on Gender Data and Gender-Based Violence. The role involves providing technical inputs for program/project proposals, supporting the production and analysis of gender-disaggregated data, and generating evidence-based recommendations to address the needs arising from crises. The Project Coordinator will oversee project implementation, ensuring effective communication and coordination across various UN Women offices and units. Additionally, the role includes supporting capacity building for women-led organizations to enhance their technical capacity and data literacy in gender statistics, ultimately contributing to informed decision-making and resource allocation in gender-responsive humanitarian and development interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development of program strategies in Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, focusing on Gender Data and Gender-Based Violence.
  • Provide technical inputs for program/project proposals related to humanitarian efforts.
  • Support the production and analysis of gender-disaggregated data, coordinating data collection and gender analysis exercises to identify gendered impacts of conflict and crisis in Sudan.
  • Coordinate the production of publicly accessible core indicators and data on gendered impacts and needs.
  • Organize data validation workshops and shape recommendations with women’s rights organizations (WROs) and women-led organizations (WLOs).
  • Develop country-specific gender analysis reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Provide management and operational oversight for project implementation, including establishing monitoring standards and key performance indicators.
  • Facilitate effective communication and coordination across the office and with other UN Women units.
  • Ensure quality assurance for all project documents and donor agreements. 1
  • Support capacity building for WLOs, mapping potential actors involved in gender data production and organizing training sessions on gender statistics in humanitarian settings. 1
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/programme management certification (such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP®) is considered an added advantage. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, knowledge of results-based management, and the ability to gather and interpret data effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, or international development. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted. A project/programme management certification is a plus.

Experience:
At least 1 year of relevant work experience in development program/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building is required. Experience in Women, Peace, and Security initiatives is desirable, as is experience coordinating with government agencies and donors.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
