Job Overview:
The Assistant Government Liaison Officer plays a pivotal role in facilitating UNHCR's engagement with the government of Sudan. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Government Liaison Officer include establishing and maintaining close working relationships with government officials and external parties, providing suggestions for promoting UNHCR's policies, and supporting coordination meetings. The incumbent will manage information flow to and from the supervisor, draft correspondence and reports, and act on behalf of the supervisor in conveying UNHCR's positions. Additionally, the officer will facilitate meetings, accompany supervisors on field visits, and support the identification and management of risks while ensuring effective decision-making in the area of responsibility. The role may also involve coordinating the work of lower-level staff and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree, or no experience with a graduate or doctorate degree. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to engage with various stakeholders, and a good understanding of local dynamics and political perspectives. Candidates should demonstrate skills in advocacy, relationship-building, and negotiation, particularly in sensitive discussions with government authorities. Experience in a government liaison function within the context of the United Nations is highly desirable, along with the ability to analyze socio-economic and political situations in Sudan and neighboring countries.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a degree in Law, International Law, Political Science, Social Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A strong academic foundation in these areas is essential for understanding the complexities of government relations and refugee protection.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with an undergraduate degree. For those with a graduate or doctorate degree, no prior experience is necessary. However, candidates with substantial experience working with various government ministries and entities, particularly in a UN context, will be preferred. The ability to navigate complex political environments and engage effectively with government officials is crucial.

Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, along with proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For national professional jobs, knowledge of the local language is also required.
