Job Overview:
The Information Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Social Territories Programme, which aims to assist vulnerable urban populations in Rio de Janeiro. This position involves close collaboration with UN-Habitat's operational and technical teams, focusing on data analysis, capacity building, and the management of urban indicators. The assistant will be responsible for extracting and processing data from public databases, analyzing urban and environmental data, and providing technical support for various program activities. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that the program's objectives are met effectively and efficiently, contributing to the overall mission of UN-Habitat in promoting sustainable urban development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Information Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Supporting the organization of capacity-building activities for government teams involved in the Social Territories Programme. 2) Assisting in the elaboration and calculation of urban and environmental data variables and indicators. 3) Extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases, presenting findings in various formats such as tables and graphs. 4) Providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management of urban indicators. 5) Ensuring quality control on all collected data. 6) Analyzing results with a territorial perspective to support public policy planning. 7) Accompanying studies related to large favela complexes and revising results of the Multidimensional Poverty Index. 8) Supporting technical teams with data analysis and monitoring. 9) Attending meetings and documenting events related to the program. 10) Maintaining organized information files and ensuring timely delivery of tasks. 11) Supporting report preparation for partners and internal stakeholders. 12) Completing required training courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, Statistics, or related fields. Alternatively, candidates with an additional three years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirement will also be considered. A postgraduate degree in the aforementioned fields is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong computer skills, particularly in Windows, Word, Excel, and web search engines, as well as proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL. Familiarity with GIS software like QGIS or ArcGIS is also advantageous. Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills are essential, along with a commitment to professionalism and knowledge management.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a postgraduate degree. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the position, emphasizing urban studies, public policy, or data analysis. Candidates with additional relevant experience may substitute for formal educational qualifications, highlighting the importance of practical knowledge in urban development and data management.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in research and/or project management in urban areas is required. Candidates should have professional and academic experience related to data analysis and urban data in Brazil. Experience in implementing public policies in favelas is desirable, as is previous work with the United Nations. The role demands a solid understanding of urban issues and the ability to manage data effectively to support program objectives.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, given the local context of the work. Working knowledge of English is desirable, while knowledge of Spanish is beneficial due to the regional office's language requirements. Proficiency in multiple languages will enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse teams at UN-Habitat.

Additional Notes:
The position is for a duration of two months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The consultant will be compensated according to the UNOPS Salary Scale (LICA 1). This appointment is on a local basis, and only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The role may require travel within Brazil, coordinated and financed by UN-Habitat, following UN travel guidelines.
