Job Overview: The Field Agent (MRP) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of UN-Habitat's programs and activities in Rio de Janeiro. Reporting to the Head of the Brazil Office, the Field Agent will work closely with UN-Habitat's operational and technical teams to ensure that the agency's objectives are met. The position requires a proactive approach to community engagement, as the Field Agent will be responsible for applying the Quick Participatory Mapping methodology in local communities, disseminating program information, and organizing local events. The role also involves attending meetings and conferences, ensuring that technical activities align with the agency's quality expectations, and preparing monthly activity reports. The Field Agent will be expected to complete all required training, including a security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course, and must be familiar with UN security mechanisms to ensure personal safety while performing duties.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Agent (MRP) will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Composing a responsible team for applying the Quick Participatory Mapping methodology in communities in Rio de Janeiro. 2) Administering questionnaires as requested by the Programme Coordination. 3) Disseminating program information within the communities. 4) Supporting the organization of local events. 5) Participating in local meetings as requested. 6) Ensuring that technical activities meet the quality expectations of UN-Habitat and its counterparts. 7) Performing additional duties as requested by supervisors. 8) Preparing and delivering a Monthly Activity Report in a timely manner. 9) Attending meetings and conferences organized by UN-Habitat and project partners. 10) Participating in missions as requested. The Field Agent will also be responsible for completing all required training and ensuring compliance with UN security protocols.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a high school diploma or an additional two years of relevant technical experience beyond the educational requirement. A Bachelor's degree in fields such as International Relations, Geography, Sociology, Law, Economics, Social Work, or Social Sciences is desirable. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in relevant fields, particularly in data collection within public projects and vulnerable communities in Rio de Janeiro. Experience in the social sector and coordinating fieldwork, especially in public sector projects, is also desirable. Previous experience working with the United Nations is an advantage. Candidates should possess good computer skills, particularly in Windows and Office applications, and have experience with household, census, and social surveys, particularly in vulnerable areas. Familiarity with digital forms and online platforms is also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a high school diploma, with a preference for those holding a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as International Relations, Geography, Sociology, Law, Economics, Social Work, or Social Sciences. Additional technical experience beyond the educational requirement is beneficial and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant work experience is required, particularly in data collection and fieldwork coordination in vulnerable communities. Experience in public sector projects and familiarity with the social sector are highly desirable. Previous work experience with the United Nations is also considered an asset, as it demonstrates an understanding of the organization's operations and expectations.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication within the local communities. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office. Proficiency in these languages, particularly English and Spanish, is considered advantageous but not required.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for a duration of two months. The consultant will receive a monthly allowance upon the approval of their monthly activity report by the Head of Brazil Office. Travel may be required for the role, and missions will be coordinated and financed by UN-Habitat in accordance with United Nations travel rules. The appointment is on a local basis, and only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply.
