Job Overview: The Consultant (Participatory Public Spaces Design - Preliminary Projects) will work closely with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to implement urban planning projects aimed at enhancing public spaces in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. This role involves translating participatory design workshop outputs into urban design proposals that cater to children aged 7 to 12 years. The consultant will be responsible for developing materials, analyzing workshop results, conducting territorial analyses, and creating strategic recommendations to improve urban safety and inclusion. The position requires a commitment to aligning project outcomes with global sustainable development goals and ensuring community engagement in urban management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: 1) Developing materials for participatory workshops, such as presentations and mapping tools. 2) Analyzing results from workshops to derive actionable insights for urban design. 3) Conducting territorial analyses to identify opportunities for urban interventions. 4) Creating strategic recommendations to enhance public spaces in line with the SDGs. 5) Documenting the entire process, including meeting minutes and analytical notes. 6) Presenting findings to UN-Habitat and local partners in accessible formats. 7) Ensuring compliance with UN-Habitat's standards for data protection and ethics. 8) Participating in meetings with stakeholders to align project expectations. 9) Completing required training courses, including security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Planning or equivalent experience. A postgraduate degree in related fields is desirable. The role requires a minimum of four years of professional experience in participatory urban design projects, preferably in Brazil. Experience with informal settlements and familiarity with the 2030 Agenda and New Urban Agenda is advantageous. Proficiency in relevant software for technical documentation and graphic representation is essential, along with strong organizational and communication skills.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Planning is required. Candidates with a postgraduate degree or specialized training in urban design or related fields will be preferred. Additional relevant experience may substitute for formal education requirements.
Experience: The position requires at least four years of professional experience in urban design projects, particularly those that involve community participation. Experience working with informal settlements and knowledge of the 2030 Agenda and New Urban Agenda will be considered beneficial. Previous experience within the UN System is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position. Working knowledge of Spanish and English is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is used in the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: This is a part-time position (50%) with a total remuneration of BRL 15,566, distributed across three payments based on the delivery of specific project outputs. The consultant must be available for travel within Brazil as required. The appointment is on a local basis, and only Brazilian nationals or those with a permanent visa may apply.
