Job Overview:
The position of Local Consultant – AI Engineer involves working with UNDP in Montenegro to provide expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing AI strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of AI technologies and their applications in various sectors, including governance, health, and environmental sustainability. The consultant will collaborate with local stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for AI integration, ensuring that solutions are tailored to the specific context of Montenegro. The assignment is set to begin on January 22, 2026, and will continue until December 24, 202

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Local Consultant – AI Engineer will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Conducting assessments to identify the potential applications of AI within UNDP projects and initiatives in Montenegro.
• Collaborating with project teams to design and implement AI-driven solutions that enhance project outcomes.
• Providing technical expertise in AI methodologies, tools, and frameworks to ensure effective implementation.
• Engaging with local stakeholders, including government agencies and civil society organizations, to promote understanding and acceptance of AI technologies.
• Developing training materials and conducting workshops to build local capacity in AI applications.
• Monitoring and evaluating the impact of AI solutions on project performance and making recommendations for improvements.
• Preparing detailed reports and documentation on AI initiatives and their outcomes for UNDP and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in artificial intelligence, data science, or a related field. A proven track record of successfully implementing AI projects in various sectors is essential. Additionally, candidates should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and convey complex technical concepts in an accessible manner. Familiarity with UNDP's mission and values, as well as experience working in international development contexts, will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline will be given preference. Continuous professional development in AI technologies and methodologies is highly desirable, as is any relevant certification in AI or data analytics.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of artificial intelligence or data science. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development projects, is highly valued. Proven experience in managing AI projects from conception to implementation, including stakeholder engagement and capacity building, is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of Montenegrin or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultant's work.
