Job Overview: The position of Banking and Finance Lawyer within the EIB's Legal Directorate is pivotal for ensuring that the bank's lending operations in Southern and Central Europe adhere to legal standards and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice on various lending operations, particularly focusing on projects in Hungary, while also having the opportunity to engage with projects in other jurisdictions within the SCE Unit's operational scope. This role demands a high level of expertise in banking and finance law, particularly in relation to secured and non-secured transactions, structured finance, and asset finance. The lawyer will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including member states, local municipalities, banks, and corporate organizations, ensuring that all legal aspects of lending operations are meticulously addressed. The position requires a proactive approach to legal research and staying updated on relevant legal developments, thereby contributing to the EIB's mission of promoting economic development in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Banking and Finance Lawyer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: drafting and negotiating legal documentation for financing operations and guarantees; providing legal advice on all matters related to the EIB’s lending operations; managing contacts and negotiations with clients and their legal counsels; ensuring compliance with legal formalities and monitoring legal implications of transactions; liaising with external legal counsels as necessary; supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues; and contributing to legal research and studies relevant to the bank's operations. The role also involves maintaining relationships with clients and external legal advisers, ensuring that the EIB's lending operations are conducted in a legally sound manner.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in law from Hungary, with a minimum qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, although a Master’s degree is preferred. A professional legal qualification and/or experience in Hungarian law is highly advantageous. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in banking and/or project financing, specifically in advising on lending transactions, ideally gained from a reputable law firm or the in-house legal department of a financial institution. Expertise in drafting and negotiating finance documents in English is essential, along with excellent knowledge of English and/or French, and a good command of Hungarian is required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a law degree from a recognized institution in Hungary. Candidates should ideally have advanced legal education, such as a Master’s degree, which would provide a deeper understanding of complex legal issues in banking and finance.
