Job Overview:
The Partnerships Junior Consultant position at WFP is designed to support the Nordic Office in Copenhagen, which plays a crucial role in managing strategic partnerships with the governments and private sectors of Denmark and Iceland. The consultant will serve as the focal point for partnerships, helping to protect and diversify funding sources from these countries. This role involves engaging with public, private, civil society, and media partners to enhance WFP's visibility and effectiveness in addressing food security issues. The consultant will work closely with WFP leadership and other stakeholders to ensure that food security remains a political priority in the Nordics and Baltics. The position requires a proactive approach to managing relationships and opportunities, as well as the ability to analyze data and provide strategic insights to inform decision-making processes. The consultant will also be responsible for drafting briefing materials and supporting missions of WFP colleagues to Denmark and Iceland, ensuring effective follow-up on engagements and maintaining communication with government counterparts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the management of strategic partnerships with the Danish and Icelandic governments, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Assisting WFP Country Offices and Global HQ colleagues in identifying partnership opportunities and negotiating contributions.
  • Managing tasks related to government-funded grants and agreements, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and timely processing of documentation.
  • Maintaining an overview of funding forecasts and sharing partner intelligence to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data to enhance information management and decision-making processes.
  • Drafting strategic briefing materials for WFP leadership for meetings with senior officials from Denmark and Iceland.
  • Supporting missions of WFP field and HQ colleagues to Denmark and Iceland, ensuring follow-up actions are executed promptly.
  • Conducting political surveillance on relevant issues and reporting developments in Denmark and Iceland.
  • Keeping Parliamentarians informed about WFP operations and advising on engagement opportunities. 1
  • Managing relationships with Danish and Icelandic private sector partners and supporting outreach to new prospects. 1
  • Collaborating with NGOs and academic partners to position the fight against hunger as a priority. 1
  • Enhancing donor visibility and pitching stories to media outlets in Denmark and Iceland. 1
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Political Science, Global Development, Business Administration, Economics, Law, Communications, or related fields. Alternatively, a first university degree combined with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be acceptable. The role requires a strong understanding of the political dynamics and funding landscape in Denmark and Iceland, as well as knowledge of humanitarian assistance and food systems transformation. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently, plan strategically, and coordinate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships.

Educational Background:
A university degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, Global Development, Business Administration, Economics, Law, or Communications is required. Candidates with a first university degree and additional relevant work experience or training will also be considered. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of partnerships and funding in the humanitarian sector.

Experience:
The position requires 1-2 years of professional experience in an international organization, political organization, NGO, or consultancy. Experience in partnerships management and fundraising, particularly within a UN agency, NGO, or government context, is highly advantageous. Candidates should have a proven track record of engaging with stakeholders and managing relationships effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in written and verbal communication in English is mandatory. A working knowledge of another UN language is desirable. Additionally, proficiency in Danish and/or Icelandic is required, as these languages are essential for effective communication with local partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a locally recruited consultancy role based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a duration of 10 months and the possibility of extension. Applicants must be Danish citizens or hold a valid legal permit to live and work in Denmark. They should reside within commuting distance of the duty station or be willing to relocate at their own expense. WFP will not cover relocation or living expenses, nor assist in obtaining residency status or work permits. The role requires a full-time presence during regular office hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
