Job Overview: The Communications Junior Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing WFP's visibility and engagement with Nordic-based media outlets. This position involves creating and adapting content for outreach efforts, supporting advocacy campaigns, and managing relationships with Nordic Goodwill Ambassadors and high-profile supporters. The consultant will work closely with the WFP Nordic Office to ensure that security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and humanitarian assistance remain a political priority in the region. The role requires a proactive approach to media engagement, content creation, and partnership management, with the goal of increasing awareness of WFP's work and the impact of Nordic funding. The consultant will also collaborate with various stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and private sector partners, to amplify WFP's message and initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Director of the WFP Nordic Office, the consultant will be responsible for the following:
Communications & Media Engagement: - Support relationships with Nordic-based journalists and media outlets. - Monitor and analyze the Nordic media landscape to identify trends and opportunities for engagement. - Assist in setting up media interviews and drafting press releases, op-eds, and talking points. - Adapt content for digital platforms in collaboration with global communications teams. - Develop content showcasing the impact of Nordic funding through WFP, including field stories and social media packages. - Support WFP Country Offices in gathering stories and multimedia assets.
Support to Goodwill Ambassadors and High-Profile Supporters: - Identify and coordinate WFP Goodwill Ambassadors and high-profile supporters from the Nordics. - Pursue opportunities to engage influential public figures in support of WFP's objectives. - Collaborate with the Global Celebrity and Influencer Partnerships team for campaign alignment.
Private and Public Sector Engagement: - Manage existing private sector partnerships, ensuring timely delivery of commitments and maintaining strong engagement. - Assist in developing pitches, proposals, and presentations for partners. - Maintain and update partnership databases to ensure accurate records of engagement activities. - Support engagements with communications teams in Nordic Foreign Ministries to amplify visibility of Nordic-funded WFP programs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Global Development, International Relations, Business Administration, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be considered. The ideal candidate should have professional experience of 2-3 years in a communications agency, private sector company, media outlet, international organization, political organization, NGO, or consultancy. Experience in media relations, press engagement, and managing celebrity or high-profile supporter engagement is desirable. Familiarity with communications and private sector partnerships management from a UN agency, NGO, or government is also beneficial.
Educational Background: A university degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Global Development, International Relations, or Business Administration is required. Candidates with a first university degree and additional relevant work experience or training may also be considered. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and the political landscape in which WFP operates.
Experience: The position requires 2-3 years of professional experience in communications, ideally within a communications agency, private sector company, media outlet, international organization, political organization, NGO, or consultancy. Experience in media relations and press engagement is crucial, as is familiarity with coordinating celebrity or high-profile supporter engagement. Experience in managing communications and private sector partnerships within a UN agency, NGO, or government context is highly desirable, as it will provide the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of partnership management and advocacy.
Languages: Fluency in written and verbal communication in English is required. A working knowledge of another UN language is desirable, and proficiency in a Nordic language is a requirement for this position. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication with stakeholders in the Nordic region and for engaging with media outlets and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is a locally recruited consultancy role, and applicants must be Danish citizens or hold a valid legal permit to live and work in Denmark. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the duty station (UN City, Marmorvej 51, 2100 København, Denmark) or be willing to relocate at their own expense. The contract duration is 11 months, with the possibility of extension. The WFP Nordic Office requires a full-time presence during regular office hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please note that WFP will not cover relocation or living expenses and will not assist in obtaining or extending residency status or work permits.
