The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of IT solutions and colleagues across UNHCR, helping to bridge internal information silos and raise awareness of the IT department's contributions to the organization's mission. The position requires a dynamic and creative individual with a strong interest in communications, who can effectively translate technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical audiences. The intern will be expected to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting the planning and creation of content while demonstrating a proactive and problem-solving attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: researching and drafting engaging editorial content such as articles and profiles in collaboration with UNHCR colleagues globally; reviewing and updating IT Intranet pages in coordination with content focal points; supporting the implementation of communication and reporting strategies by drafting and editing materials like guides and reports; updating key information-sharing platforms; coordinating the production of visibility materials such as posters and videos; assisting in organizing meetings and events; tracking action items and preparing information packages for coordination with partners; and undertaking any additional tasks as assigned by the Advocacy & Reporting Officer.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: be a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate program from an accredited university; have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field; and not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR. Additionally, candidates who have a familial relationship with a current UNHCR staff member or affiliate are not eligible for the internship.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being a recent graduate or a current student in a relevant field of study from a recognized university or higher education institution. Candidates should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies, which demonstrates a foundational understanding of the work related to UNHCR's mission and objectives.
Experience: The position is designed for individuals who are either recent graduates or current students, thus the level of experience required is minimal. However, candidates should possess a strong interest in communication work and be able to demonstrate relevant skills through their academic or extracurricular activities. Previous internships or volunteer experiences in related fields would be advantageous but are not mandatory.
Languages: The primary language required for this position is English, with a proficiency level of B2 or higher. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English. Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time position with working hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. The internship duration is six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships. Interns who do not receive financial support from external sources will receive an allowance to help cover living expenses. Travel costs for interns coming from outside the duty station will be reimbursed for their outward and return travel, subject to prior authorization. Interns are responsible for acquiring necessary visas and health insurance, and they must provide proof of good health before starting the internship.
