Job Overview:
The position of Deputy Head of Service Section within the Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) at UNHCR is crucial for mobilizing resources from the private sector to support refugees. The role involves developing and strengthening long-term partnerships with corporations, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals. The selected candidate will be responsible for creating marketing strategies and communication plans that enhance engagement and visibility for UNHCR's partnerships. This includes producing high-quality written materials such as press releases, social media content, and stewardship products aimed at high-value partnerships. The Deputy Head will work closely with various teams within UNHCR to ensure effective communication and coordination across the organization, ultimately contributing to the organization's mission of supporting refugees and advocating for their rights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Head of Service Section include:
  • Developing and managing marketing and communication strategies that maximize engagement and visibility for UNHCR’s partnerships with the private sector.
  • Supporting account managers and National Partners in building stewardship plans to enhance donor engagement and loyalty.
  • Coordinating content development and production in collaboration with UNHCR’s communication teams.
  • Managing the writing, editing, and dissemination of content and assets for UNHCR and its private partners.
  • Identifying and pursuing visibility opportunities with influential donors.
  • Producing talking points, messages, and background information for internal and external communication.
  • Managing reputational risks associated with private sector partnerships.
  • Ensuring alignment with UNHCR’s global advocacy and communication strategies.
  • Building effective relationships with colleagues across the organization. 1
  • Providing training and support to fundraisers in PSP markets. 1
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Information, Business, or related fields. Essential qualifications include a minimum of 6 years of relevant job experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5 years with a master’s degree in communication, media, journalism, fundraising, external relations, donor relations, or advocacy. Candidates must demonstrate strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality materials under tight deadlines. A solid understanding of the international media environment and strategic communications expertise is essential. Familiarity with UNHCR's operational arrangements and funding needs is desirable, along with at least two years of international experience.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Marketing, Communications, Public Information, or Business. A Master’s degree is preferred and may reduce the required years of experience. The educational background should provide a strong foundation in communication strategies and marketing principles relevant to the role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in communication or related fields, with a Bachelor’s degree, or 5 years of experience with a Master’s degree. Experience should include writing, editing, and developing communication plans, as well as familiarity with social media as a marketing tool. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of the UN's refugee and human rights frameworks and possess tactical and strategic communications expertise.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
This position is remote, allowing the successful candidate to work from home while collaborating with colleagues globally. The role is full-time, requiring 40 hours of work per week, typically from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. The initial contract is set until December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension based on budget availability and performance.
