Job Overview: The position of Part-time Language Teacher for Arabic involves preparing and facilitating language lessons, ensuring high-quality delivery of scheduled courses, and maintaining up-to-date learning materials. Teachers are expected to correct assignments promptly, administer evaluations to track learner progress, and report attendance. Collaboration with the UNOV/UNODC administration team is essential, and teachers must provide constructive feedback to students while monitoring their progress. Classes will be held at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) or online, with a commitment to delivering engaging and interactive linguistic training. The role requires flexibility in adapting lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of learners and ensuring coherence across lessons. Teachers will also be responsible for preparing the learning environment and utilizing various teaching methods and technologies to enhance the learning experience.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Talent Development Team (TDT), the part-time language Teacher for Arabic will: a) Plan and prepare course plans and lessons aligned with the UN Language Framework (UNLF) and implement the agreed curricula; b) Deliver interactive linguistic training in person or online, managing class interactions effectively; c) Design and select appropriate assessment methods to evaluate learners' progress; d) Seek feedback from participants and provide reports to the Team Leader on lessons learned and areas for improvement; e) Prepare the learning environment and ensure all necessary materials are ready for each session; f) Monitor and record students' attendance, addressing any issues with attendance policies; g) Contribute to the success of the Language Programme by attending meetings and collaborating with the administration team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication, education/pedagogy, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of five years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign or second language is required, with at least three years being recent. Proficiency in using e-learning tools and online collaboration platforms is essential, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience working with adults in a multicultural environment is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication, or education/pedagogy is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign or second language, with at least three years of that experience being recent. Familiarity with e-learning tools and online teaching methodologies is also required, as well as experience in a multicultural teaching environment.
Languages: Native-level proficiency in Arabic is mandatory, as defined by the UN Language Framework. Fluency in English, with excellent drafting and communication skills, is also required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: The duration of each regular language course is 17 weeks, with classes held twice a week for 1.5 hours each, totaling 51 hours per course. Workshops will last 16 weeks, with one class per week for 1 hour, totaling 16 hours. Teachers will be compensated at a rate of 50 EUR per hour for both regular courses and workshops. Payment will be made in four installments based on the total hours worked. The contract does not include medical insurance or pension benefits.
