Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is a regional arm of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). Established to assist countries in the Asia-Pacific region in achieving their peace, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and disarmament goals, UNRCPD provides substantive support, coordinates activities at various levels, and facilitates information sharing on global and regional developments. The organization was mandated by the UN General Assembly resolution A/42/39D on November 30, 1987, to support Member State initiatives and coordinate regional disarmament activities. UNRCPD collaborates closely with regional and sub-regional organizations, other UN entities, and civil society, focusing on capacity-building, technical assistance, dialogue, and advocacy. The organization is committed to advancing inclusive and intersectional approaches to disarmament, aligning its efforts with the UN Secretary-General’s Disarmament Agenda, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and various UN resolutions, including those related to youth engagement in disarmament initiatives.

Job Overview:
The Disarmament Programmes Coordinator will play a crucial role in coordinating youth outreach and engagement initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region. This position involves developing training materials, managing virtual events, and maintaining a regional database of youth organizations focused on disarmament. The Coordinator will also prepare analytical briefs on disarmament issues, support the organization of meetings and workshops, and draft communication materials. The role requires a proactive approach to research, reporting, and communications, as well as maintaining partnerships with youth organizations and UN partners. The Coordinator will be expected to deliver outputs that meet quality standards and contribute to increased youth visibility and participation in disarmament efforts at various levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Disarmament Programmes Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks: A. Youth Programme Coordination: Coordinate UNRCPD’s youth outreach initiatives, develop training materials, manage virtual events, create a regional database of youth organizations, and disseminate youth-related announcements. B. WMD Programme Coordination: Prepare analytical briefs on disarmament issues, support meetings and workshops, draft mission reports, and liaise with Member States and experts. C. Research, Reporting & Communications: Draft briefing materials, lead internal scoping documents on youth initiatives, and produce public information materials. D. Partnerships & Networks: Maintain contacts with youth organizations and support mobilization of youth networks for advocacy. E. Office Support & Additional Duties: Manage mailing lists and perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Deputy Director.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s) in political or social sciences, international development, peace and conflict studies, or a related field. They should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, effective communication, teamwork, client orientation, and accountability. A commitment to youth empowerment and gender equality is essential, along with the ability to work inclusively with diverse partners.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s) in political or social sciences, international development, peace and conflict studies, or a related field is required for this position.

Experience:
A minimum of one to two years of relevant work experience in youth engagement, programme coordination, or in disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control is required. Experience in virtual event coordination and stakeholder liaison is desirable, as well as strong writing and editing skills for briefs and reports.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this consultancy. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset, with Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish being the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
