Job Overview: The Programme Officer position at UN Women Nepal is pivotal in managing and implementing programs aimed at promoting Gender Responsive Inclusive Governance (GRIG), particularly focusing on women's leadership and political participation. The Programme Officer will work closely with various stakeholders, including government bodies, civil society organizations, and development partners, to enhance women's participation in governance and decision-making processes. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying areas for intervention and support, as well as the ability to monitor and report on program outcomes effectively. The Programme Officer will also be responsible for developing technical knowledge products and facilitating capacity-building initiatives for partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Contributing to the development of program strategies in the area of Gender Responsive Inclusive Governance, focusing on women's leadership and political participation.
Providing technical support for the implementation and management of GRIG thematic area programs.
Leading the coordination of calls for proposals and organizing technical review committees.
Monitoring the submission of financial and narrative reports from implementing partners.
Offering guidance on Results Based Management to partners.
Developing technical knowledge products and maintaining relationships with national partners.
Monitoring progress of program activities and finances, drafting reports on program results.
Coordinating capacity-building initiatives and advocacy campaigns related to women's leadership. 1
Performing other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as gender studies, international relations, development studies, law, political science, human rights, sociology, or other relevant social sciences. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in governance-related programs, particularly focusing on gender equality and social inclusion. Experience in building partnerships with governments, donors, and civil society organizations is essential, along with a proven track record of writing quality donor reports using a results-based management approach. Familiarity with UN operations is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields is required for this position. However, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and governance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in designing, managing, monitoring, and reporting on governance-related programs. Candidates should have a strong focus on gender equality and social inclusion, particularly in relation to women's leadership and political participation. Experience in collaborating with various stakeholders, including government entities and civil society organizations, is vital for success in this role. Previous experience working with the UN is advantageous but not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in English and Nepali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the preparation of reports and documentation. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.
