Job Overview: The Locum Nurse position is crucial for ensuring that UN staff members are fit to carry out their duties and travel safely. The role is located within the Medical Service of the Human Resource Management Section in the Division of Administration at the UN complex in Bangkok. The Medical Service acts as an occupational health service and on-site clinic, providing essential medical support to UN staff and other clientele. The Locum Nurse will temporarily fill in for the regular Nurse during their absences, typically for periods ranging from a few days to four weeks, and will report directly to the Medical Officer. This position requires a proactive approach to occupational health and clinical services, ensuring that all medical needs of the staff are met efficiently and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Medical Officer, the Locum Nurse will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: assisting the Medical Officer in providing occupational health and clinical services; ensuring staff preparedness for missions and re-assignments by managing travel clearances and administering necessary vaccinations; providing primary care and referrals to external health care providers; delivering emergency care and life support when needed; administering vaccinations and writing prescriptions; assisting in physical examinations and other medical assessments; offering guidance on occupational health matters; managing medical supplies and ensuring their availability; and performing any other related duties as required. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining a high standard of care and ensuring that all medical protocols are followed diligently.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree (B.S. or equivalent) in nursing, medicine, occupational health, public health, or a related field. Formal training in CPR is required, and training in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support or equivalent emergency medical care is highly desirable. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible clinical experience in nursing or a related area is essential, particularly in administering immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, and working in an occupational health setting. Experience with inventory management and medico-administrative matters is also desirable, along with familiarity in working within a diverse, multicultural, and multilingual organization. Proficiency in standard computer tools such as MS Office is required, and experience with electronic tools and clinical databases is a plus. A national registration and nursing license is mandatory.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in nursing or a related field. This degree should be complemented by formal training in CPR and preferably in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support or equivalent emergency medical care. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in health sciences, preparing the candidate for the clinical responsibilities of the role.
