Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chief of Branch will perform a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Formulating and implementing the work programme of the Mine Action Service, ensuring timely execution of activities.
  • Overseeing the management of the Mine Action programme, including resource allocation and budget preparation.
  • Coordinating inputs for budget and performance reports for intergovernmental bodies.
  • Advising on mandate changes in mine action aligned with political and security developments.
  • Ensuring all outputs meet required technical, safety, and quality standards.
  • Managing programmatic and administrative tasks necessary for the functioning of the Mine Action programme.
  • Guiding, developing, and training staff under supervision.
  • Fostering teamwork and communication among staff and across organizational boundaries.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications, including:
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in public administration, political studies, international relations, law, management, social sciences, or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) may be accepted with two additional years of relevant experience.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in the field of mine action, disarmament, and humanitarian responses.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to guide and develop teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as public administration, political studies, international relations, law, management, or social sciences. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) combined with two additional years of relevant qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible professional experience in programme and project management. This includes at least ten years of experience in managing programmes and projects related to mine action, disarmament, demobilization, security sector reform, stabilization, or humanitarian responses. Additionally, a minimum of five years in a senior advisory or managerial role in a conflict or post-conflict setting within the United Nations or similar international organizations is required. Experience in managing a mine action field programme and large teams is essential, while experience in resource mobilization and engaging with senior government officials in complex settings is desirable.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
