In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

The main roles of UN Women are:

> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview: The Programme Assistant position at UN Women involves providing comprehensive support to the Programme Team in the development and implementation of effective programs aligned with UN Women’s rules and regulations. Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Providing administrative and logistical support for the formulation and management of Women Peace and Security programs.
Assisting in the preparation of program work plans, budgets, and proposals, including tracking fund delivery.
Supporting executing agencies with routine delivery and reporting of program activities and finances.
Aiding in the audit process of programs/projects and implementing audit recommendations.
Compiling data and information for documents, guidelines, speeches, and position papers.
Supporting financial management by creating projects in Quantum, preparing budget revisions, and processing payments.
Organizing meetings, workshops, and events, including travel arrangements for the Programme Team.
Assisting the Country Program Manager in coordinating team meetings and compiling documentation from donors and the program team.
Facilitating knowledge sharing and training for office staff and partners on program and operations-related issues.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration considered an asset. The role requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in administrative or program management/support. Familiarity with office software packages and experience in a computer environment are essential, while experience with Quantum software is an advantage. The candidate should demonstrate good financial and budgeting skills, as well as the ability to manage data and documents effectively.
