Job Overview:
The Medical Officer position is a vital role within the UNMIK framework, primarily focused on providing comprehensive medical care to UN staff and their eligible dependents. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and will be responsible for delivering primary health care services, emergency medical services, and ensuring the overall health and well-being of UN personnel. This role requires a proactive approach to health management, including the coordination of medical evacuations, referrals to specialists, and the management of Covid-19 cases. The Medical Officer will also engage in health prevention campaigns and collaborate with local medical facilities to ensure that staff receive the best possible care. The position demands a high level of professionalism, integrity, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation to the evolving medical landscape in Kosovo.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Officer will undertake a variety of clinical and medico-administrative duties, including but not limited to:

• Providing primary health care services to UN staff and their eligible dependents, including managing cases under observation at the Mitrovica dispensary.
• Delivering emergency medical services, including prehospital and advanced cardiac life support, in response to accidents or life-threatening medical conditions prior to evacuation to higher-level medical care.
• Being on standby for emergencies as required and facilitating access to specialists and necessary investigations in receiving medical facilities.
• Escorting patients during medical evacuations and providing in-trip medical care as needed.
• Coordinating with the Pristina clinic for health awareness and prevention campaigns, particularly regarding Covid-19 management.
• Undergoing necessary training organized or recommended by the UNMIK Medical Unit.
• Following up on medical reports and documentation for patients under care in contracted facilities.
• Performing medico-administrative tasks such as data entry in EarthMed, advising staff on medical rules and regulations, sick leave, travel clearance, and medical statistics.
• Accompanying the Chief Medical Officer on assessment visits to medical facilities and ensuring the readiness of the UNMIK medical facility in Mitrovica, including maintaining an updated stock of medications and disposables, and regular checks of equipment and ambulance serviceability. 1
• Liaising with designated Medevac/referral hospitals and KFOR hospitals under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Medical Officer position must possess a valid medical degree from a recognized institution, along with relevant certifications in emergency medicine and primary health care. The role requires a strong understanding of UN procedures and the ability to navigate complex medical and administrative environments. Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in a clinical setting, with a focus on primary health care and emergency medical services. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of managing medical emergencies, providing comprehensive health care, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with UN operations and procedures will be considered an asset, as will experience in health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for the Medical Officer position, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Albanian or Serbian, is considered a strong asset and may enhance communication with local populations and stakeholders.

The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold winters, and housing options are readily available. The cost of living is reasonable, and there are no specific health risks associated with living in Kosovo, with no vaccinations required prior to arrival.
