The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) is an international organization headquartered in Vienna, Austria. Established to implement the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), the organization is responsible for setting up a global verification system to monitor compliance with the treaty, which prohibits any nuclear weapon test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The CTBTO operates a network of 337 monitoring stations worldwide, an international data center, and conducts on-site inspections to ensure adherence to the treaty. Job Overview:
The Head of the Editorial and Publishing Unit is a senior position within the Legal and External Relations Division, specifically in the Policy Making Organ (PMO) Secretariat Support Section. The role involves overseeing the management of activities related to the editing, design, publishing, and document control of official documents and publications produced by the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS). The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all documents meet established editorial standards and practices, providing recommendations on content and presentation, and ensuring timely submission and issuance of documents. The position requires collaboration with colleagues to achieve organizational goals and deliver quality outputs efficiently. The Head will also be tasked with keeping the editorial guidelines updated, exploring new digital publishing alternatives, and managing the human resources of the unit, including training and mentoring the editorial team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Head of the Editorial and Publishing Unit include planning, organizing, and overseeing the management of editing and publishing activities; editing, reviewing, and proofreading official documents for accuracy and clarity; advising on editorial style and policy; ensuring quality control of documents; maintaining up-to-date editorial guidelines; monitoring document submissions; pursuing new digital publishing opportunities; managing the unit's human resources; providing guidance and performance management; and training the editorial team. The role also involves performing other duties as assigned by the Chief of the PMO Secretariat Support Section.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in English or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates with an advanced degree must have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in editing documentation, while those with a first-level degree must have at least nine years of relevant experience. Experience in an international organization is considered an asset. Strong writing and analytical skills, familiarity with editing software, and knowledge of editorial policies and practices are also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in English or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience. The advanced degree should ideally be complemented by extensive experience in editing technical texts and documentation.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in editing documentation for candidates with an advanced degree, or nine years for those with a first-level degree. Experience in planning and coordinating document production, managing teams, and working in a complex environment is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and experience in an international context.

Languages:
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential, with proficiency at a native level. Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is desirable but not mandatory.
