Job Overview: The intern will work under the overall supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Manager of the DTM REMAP project based in Berlin, Germany. The primary function of this position is to support the implementation of ongoing work related to the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) project. The intern will assist in researching and drafting dashboards, preparing data for flash information sheets, papers, and reports that describe and analyze human mobility of Afghan, Bangladeshi, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Pakistani, Tajik, and Uzbek nationals. This will involve compiling, analyzing, and visualizing human mobility data for DTM REMAP reporting purposes. The intern will also support the development and implementation of systems for quality assurance and improvement of DTM REMAP data and analysis, as well as assist in analyzing new assignments and developing scripts to validate data. The role requires collaboration with various parts of the global DTM Support team to ensure timely delivery of content and adherence to IOM Data Protection Policy and ITC Policies and Standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in researching and drafting dashboards and preparing data for flash information sheets, papers, and reports on human mobility.
Compile, analyze, and visualize human mobility data for DTM REMAP reporting purposes.
Support the development and implementation of supplementary systems for quality assurance of DTM REMAP data.
Analyze new assignments and develop scripts to validate data.
Handle change requests and provide solutions to data sourcing issues.
Manage dataset addition processes, including requirements, metadata, and backup procedures.
Collaborate with the global DTM Support team to ensure timely content delivery.
Develop data queries for internal use and perform one-time data pulls from the database.
Ensure compliance with IOM Data Protection Policy and ITC Policies and Standards. 1

Required Qualifications:
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field.
Two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in compiling, collecting, and analyzing data from various sources.
Familiarity with Natural Language Processing and Sentiment Analysis is advantageous.
Proficiency in Python 3 or another multi-purpose programming language.
Ability to transform ideas into algorithms and programming code/apps.
Interest in spatio-temporal data and Big Data technologies.
Educational Background: Candidates must be pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates should either be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months.
Experience: Candidates should have two years of relevant professional experience, particularly in compiling, collecting, and analyzing data from different sources, both structured and unstructured. Experience with Natural Language Processing and Sentiment Analysis is considered advantageous, indicating a preference for candidates with a strong analytical background.
Languages: Fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Russian, and Uzbek languages, as well as another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, and Spanish), is an advantage. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The internship is classified as an internship with a duration of four months, with the possibility of extension. Candidates must be between 20 and 36 years of age and should have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM programs. The internship may be required to complete their studies or be sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions. IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, and candidates should consider the cost of living in Berlin prior to applying. Only candidates possessing the right of residence and right to work in Germany will be considered for this vacancy.
