Job Overview:

Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should possess less than two years of relevant work experience. The programme aims to provide interns with practical experience in the field of Human Resources, allowing them to support the operational activities of the HR Team while gaining valuable insights into the workings of an international organization. Interns will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Senior HR Associate, contributing to various HR functions such as administrative support, time and attendance management, and recruitment administration. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to enhance their skills and knowledge in a dynamic and impactful environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: providing administrative support across the employee lifecycle, preparing employee certificates, drafting reference letters, maintaining and ensuring compliance of personnel files, and archiving HR documentation. They will also manage time and attendance administration, which involves daily absence registration and tracking, as well as preparation and administration of extended leaves such as parental leave and special leave. In terms of recruitment administration, interns will assist in vacancy advertisements, pre-screening applications, compliance and background checks, and scheduling interviews and assessments. Additionally, interns may be assigned other duties by their immediate supervisor or the Chief of Mission as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be students or recent graduates, preferably in fields related to Human Resources, Psychology, Social Sciences, or Political Sciences. They should have a strong interest in the work of international organizations and migration issues. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, is essential. Prior experience in Human Resources or a related administrative field is considered an asset. Interns must also demonstrate fluency in both English and German, as these are the primary languages used in the workplace.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months. This educational background is crucial as it ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge to complement their practical experience at IOM.

Experience:
Interns should have less than two years of relevant working experience. This requirement is designed to attract individuals who are at the beginning of their professional journey, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment while contributing to IOM's mission.

Languages:
Fluency in both spoken and written German and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official IOM language, such as French or Spanish, is considered an advantage. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the communication requirements of the role.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, as well as verification of residency, visa, and any necessary authorizations by the relevant government authorities. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, depending on their experience and location. However, those receiving an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or academic credits will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage for interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. However, interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide proof of such coverage before starting work. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that contradicts the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, and discrimination. The organization does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
