Job Overview: The UNFPA Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Global Head of the Women X Collective, supporting the efficient functioning of the WomenX program. This role involves conducting research to support forecasting and solution selection, assisting with external relations, and contributing to resource mobilization efforts. The volunteer will collaborate closely with the WomenX team and the wider Innovation and Transformation Branch team, as well as partners and stakeholders, particularly in Berlin. A work plan will be established with specific achievements for the duration of the assignment, and periodic progress meetings will be held to foster a beneficial environment for skill enhancement related to UNFPA's mandate.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the UNFPA Volunteer include conducting in-depth research and analysis to support WomenX’s pipeline development and resource mobilization efforts. Key tasks involve researching health innovation trends, preparing research reports, drafting donor profiles, and conducting research on potential investors and financing opportunities. The volunteer will also assist in developing an external engagement plan, creating internal briefing notes, and drafting content for funder reporting. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to work independently, and effective communication skills to support the WomenX initiative's goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet several eligibility requirements, including being over the age of 18, having appropriate residence or immigration status if not a national of the country where they will volunteer, and demonstrating interest in the field of development. Volunteers may include professionals, technicians, and retirees, and family members of current UNFPA personnel may volunteer with prior disclosure of relationships. A working knowledge of English is required, and fluency in the official UN languages may be necessary depending on the office.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, law, social studies, or a related area is required for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of global health and development issues that the UNFPA addresses.
Experience: Some experience in project management and/or research is required for this role. Candidates should possess excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, strong analytical and research skills, and the capacity to work productively in a multicultural team. The ability to work under pressure and produce quality work is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while fluency in German is desirable. Knowledge of an additional United Nations language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
Additional Notes: The volunteer assignment is set to last from 16 February 2026 to 31 July 2026, totaling 24 weeks. UNFPA Volunteers do not receive a salary or remuneration and must cover their living expenses, accommodation, travel, and other requirements. Medical insurance is required for the duration of the assignment, and proof of adequate medical insurance, a medical certificate of good health, and proof of any required vaccinations must be submitted before the assignment begins.
