Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and has a mission to promote gender equality and empower women, girls, and young people. The organization focuses on four interconnected outcomes: ending unmet need for family planning, preventing maternal deaths, eliminating gender-based violence, and adapting to demographic changes through evidence-based policies. UNFPA is committed to transparency, ethical standards, and delivering high-impact results in a rapidly changing development landscape.

Job Overview:
The UNFPA Volunteer will support the WomenX Collective under the direct supervision of the Global Head. This role involves providing event management, communications, and knowledge management support to ensure the efficient functioning of the WomenX Collective. The volunteer will collaborate closely with the WomenX team and the wider Innovation and Transformation Branch, as well as partners and stakeholders, particularly in Berlin and Nairobi. A work plan will be established to outline achievements during the volunteer assignment, with periodic progress meetings to enhance the volunteer's skills and capacity in alignment with UNFPA's mandate. This position is crucial for supporting communication, visibility, and event management for WomenX, contributing to the organization's mission of addressing critical health gaps for women and girls.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: drafting communication materials for the website, social media, and reports; developing and disseminating communication materials related to WomenX activities; assisting in preparing knowledge products for reports and presentations; coordinating with the UNFPA Communications team; managing logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements for meetings and events; drafting event concepts; managing event invitations and participant lists; ensuring smooth event delivery including logistics; and preparing post-event reports summarizing activities and feedback. This role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.

Required Qualifications:

Family members of current UNFPA personnel can volunteer with prior disclosure to the Ethics Office. A volunteer should have completed secondary education and possess a working knowledge of English. Fluency in the official UNFPA language may be required, and candidates should demonstrate interest in development and the ability to adapt to diverse cultural environments.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in administration, political science, international relations, law, social studies, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of the role and the mission of UNFPA.

Experience:

Candidates should have excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision, and the ability to thrive in a multicultural team environment. Strong communication and writing skills are also essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, while fluency in German is desirable. Knowledge of an additional United Nations language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.

The volunteer assignment is set to last from 16 February 2026 to 31 July 2026, totaling 24 weeks. UNFPA Volunteers do not receive a salary or remuneration; they must cover their living expenses, accommodation, and travel arrangements. Medical insurance is required for the duration of the assignment, and proof of adequate medical insurance, a medical certificate of good health, and vaccination records must be submitted before the assignment begins.
