Job Overview: The Analyst position within the Global Malaria Team at CHAI is designed for a highly motivated individual who will assist governments across Africa in utilizing advanced planning techniques, particularly data-driven decision-making, to significantly reduce malaria cases and deaths. The role requires a passion for addressing complex problems and making a positive impact on public health. The Analyst will support the development of national strategic plans for malaria, optimize financial and programmatic data use, and enhance the management of malaria programs. This position is flexible in terms of location, primarily based in Eswatini but can be situated in any CHAI Africa program country with leadership approval. The Analyst will report to the Senior Manager for Malaria Strategy and Financing and will collaborate closely with CHAI Country Teams and Regional Technical Teams. Key skills required include analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication, along with a commitment to achieving results in a challenging environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Analyst will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: researching and developing concise briefs on global malaria management issues; assisting in the creation of Excel-based budget and cost models for malaria interventions; conducting analyses to align available funding with needs and identify resource gaps; prioritizing and optimizing activities within funding constraints; developing resource mobilization proposals for countries, such as those for the Global Fund; facilitating evidence-based program reviews and strategic planning; helping malaria programs address funding absorption and implementation challenges; strengthening the use of financial and programmatic data for decision-making; building relationships with stakeholders across CHAI, government, NGOs, and the private sector; coordinating efforts among various stakeholders; sharing updates and best practices; and traveling to remote regions as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Essential qualifications for this position include: professional-level fluency in English (both verbal and written); a Bachelor's degree in Business, Policy, Public Health, International Development, or a related field; at least 1 year of relevant work experience; high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills; the ability to manage multiple work streams and set priorities independently; exceptional written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills for building relationships in diverse environments; and a willingness to travel 10-50% of the time, particularly in Africa.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business, Policy, Public Health, or International Development. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health systems and the socio-economic factors influencing public health initiatives.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of professional experience. This experience should ideally involve working in environments that require analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in public health, international development, or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, working-level proficiency in Portuguese, French, or Spanish is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and partners in various regions.
