Job Overview: The Communications Assistant role at UNV is pivotal in supporting the implementation of the organization's communications strategy at both regional and country levels. This position is designed for a UN Volunteer who will ensure the timely delivery of relevant content and enhance the visibility of UN Volunteers and the UNV itself at the local level. The Communications Assistant will engage with UN partners to mobilize volunteers and attract diverse national talent, thereby strengthening the UNV brand and promoting the ethos of volunteerism within Brazil. The incumbent will be responsible for managing social media presence, coordinating campaigns, and contributing to public engagement efforts that align with UNV's mission and values.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Assistant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the implementation of communications strategies and campaigns by assisting in the creation of promotional materials and organizing events that raise awareness about UNV and volunteerism.
Generating and adapting content for various platforms, ensuring that it is engaging and tailored to specific audiences. This includes drafting original content, collecting multimedia materials, and coordinating with the Regional Communications team for consistency.
Managing the dissemination of content through digital and offline channels, including social media management, tracking performance analytics, and reporting on audience engagement.
Contributing to joint communications and storytelling by liaising with UN partners and volunteers to draft impactful narratives that highlight volunteer contributions.
Providing operational support for communications activities, including organizing logistics for events, assisting with graphic design, and maintaining communication files. The role requires flexibility and teamwork, as the Communications Assistant will also support other functions within the Field Unit as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Communications Assistant position should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences. They should demonstrate proficiency in managing communications through various channels, including social media. A solid understanding of brand management and campaign execution is essential, along with the ability to engage with a wide range of partners. The ideal candidate should also have experience in event planning and execution, as well as a knack for storytelling that resonates with different stakeholders.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with relevant certifications or additional training in communications or media will be considered favorably. A strong academic background that demonstrates an understanding of communication strategies and practices is essential for success in this role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in volunteer settings is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully implementing communication strategies and campaigns, as well as experience in content creation and social media management. Familiarity with the UN system and its values will be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as the role requires effective communication within Brazil. Proficiency in English is also essential, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Spanish, would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Brasília, Brazil. The position is classified as a family duty station, and the living conditions are generally good, with access to health services and a variety of accommodation options. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials.
