Job Overview:
The Caregiver position is a critical role within the IOM Cyprus project, specifically focused on the Operation of Semi Independent Living Units for Unaccompanied Migrant Children. This project, which has been operational since 2020, aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for unaccompanied children under 16 years of age. The Caregiver will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and collaborate with the Administrative Associate (Shelter) to ensure the well-being of the children. The role involves providing care, maintaining security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and fostering a nurturing environment for the children, while also assisting in their daily routines and activities. The Caregiver will play a vital role in building trust and rapport with the children, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met, and facilitating their integration into the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Caregiver will be responsible for a variety of duties aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of the migrant children. These include providing direct care to the children residing in the shelter, establishing relationships of trust and cooperation with the beneficiaries, and maintaining the security of the children at all times. In case of emergencies, the Caregiver will manage incidents and communicate effectively with other staff members. The role also involves assisting the Project Assistant (Protection) in identifying employment opportunities and housing for children aging out of the program. The Caregiver will oversee the children's hygiene and clothing needs, escort them to necessary services, and ensure the living conditions are maintained according to established standards. Additionally, the Caregiver will assist in organizing daily routines and activities, support educational and recreational initiatives, and promote culturally sensitive behavior among the children. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the overall mission of the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school degree or certificate with at least three years of relevant work experience, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of one year of relevant experience. Accredited universities are those recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in a multicultural setting, as well as strong organizational and facilitation skills. A commitment to humanitarian principles and a good level of computer literacy are also essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for the Caregiver position include either a high school diploma or certificate accompanied by three years of relevant work experience, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited academic institution with at least one year of relevant working experience. It is important that candidates have their degrees from recognized institutions, as listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, to ensure the credibility of their educational background.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of one year of previous working experience, preferably in roles that involve direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees. Familiarity with working in a multicultural environment is desirable, and previous experience with children or in semi-independent living units is considered an advantage. This experience will help the Caregiver to effectively address the unique challenges faced by unaccompanied migrant children and to provide the necessary support and care.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and oral, is required for this position. As IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, proficiency in these languages may also be beneficial. The selection process will specifically evaluate candidates' language skills, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure effective communication with the children and other stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Cyprus will be considered. The Caregiver role will involve working in a 24/7 operational environment, with staffing organized through rotating shifts to ensure continuous care and supervision of the children. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months. Additionally, candidates must be certified as medically fit for appointment, and the organization has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM.
