Job Overview: The UN Expert Volunteer (Child Protection) will play a crucial role in supporting the Child Protection Sub-Sector in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, particularly in the context of the Rohingya refugee response. This position involves establishing coordination mechanisms, maintaining data collection tools, and ensuring effective communication among partners. The volunteer will assist in training stakeholders, document best practices, and support the organization of meetings and forums. The role requires collaboration with various partners to enhance the effectiveness of child protection interventions and ensure that the rights of children are upheld in humanitarian contexts. The volunteer will also be responsible for data management, analysis, and visualization to support advocacy and resource mobilization efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the UN Expert Volunteer include supporting the establishment of coordination mechanisms for child protection, assisting in data collection and analysis, and maintaining information management systems. The volunteer will coordinate with partners on service mapping, deliver training, document lessons learned, and organize meetings. They will also connect with global child protection clusters, ensure the confidentiality of information, and develop situation reports. Regular visits to camps will be required to monitor child protection risks and provide support. The volunteer will compile and analyze partner submissions to identify trends and gaps, maintain shared information platforms, and provide IM support during emergencies. The role also includes mentoring partners and ensuring that child protection strategies are responsive to the needs of children in the camps.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in data management and analysis is essential, along with experience in child protection or humanitarian response. The volunteer should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Knowledge of child rights and protection issues, particularly in emergency contexts, is highly desirable. Candidates should also exhibit integrity, accountability, and respect for diversity in their work.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in child protection, humanitarian response, or related areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and relevant international standards.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in child protection, humanitarian response, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in emergency settings is preferred. Familiarity with data management tools and information systems is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Bengali or Rohingya is an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a National UN Volunteer assignment based in Cox's Bazar, with regular travel to Rohingya camps and surrounding areas. The volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers are covered under a malicious acts insurance plan.
