The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. They work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. Headquartered in Bonn, Germany, UNV has around 150 staff members at headquarters, and 8,500 UN Volunteers deployed in the field.

The UNV programme was established in 1970 by the UN General Assembly with the mission to promote volunteerism as a means of achieving peace and development. By the end of 2024, the programme had mobilized over 14,600 UN Volunteers from more than 180 nationalities, serving in 170 countries and collaborating with 59 UN agencies. The organization aims to improve the lives of millions globally and significantly contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Job Overview:
The Client Engagement Assistant role is pivotal in supporting the UNV Field Unit's mission at the country level. This position involves the identification, development, and cultivation of partnerships with UN Agencies and Host Entities. The assistant will manage relationships with priority partners, ensuring client satisfaction with volunteer services and facilitating the mobilization of volunteers. The role requires regular interaction with UN personnel at various levels and emphasizes collaboration across multiple units and functions within the UNV framework. The assistant will also play a key role in advocacy campaigns and communications to raise awareness of volunteerism and its impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mobilization and Partnership Management: Assist in managing partner accounts, maintain relationships with UN entities, identify volunteer placement opportunities, and contribute to tailored offers that meet partners' needs. Support advocacy campaigns and collect data to identify volunteer engagement opportunities. Record mobilization opportunities in the CRM system and prepare presentations for partner engagement.
  • Partnership Building and Advocacy: Organize strategic dialogues and outreach events, identify new partnerships, and promote UNV’s results at both country and regional levels. Collaborate with the communications team to disseminate promotional information about UNV’s work and coordinate events for international celebrations.
  • Volunteer Experience and Duty of Care: Assist with onboarding and support throughout the volunteer management cycle, respond to inquiries, and organize appreciation initiatives. Backstop other functions during peak periods to ensure continuity of service.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. A solid understanding of the UN system and its operations is essential, along with the capability to manage relationships and advocate for volunteerism. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively across various teams.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in volunteer management or partnership development would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in partnership management, volunteer coordination, or a similar role within an international organization or NGO. Experience working in a UN context or with UN agencies is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be an asset.

This position is based in the Central African Republic, a post-conflict country with ongoing challenges related to security and infrastructure. The role may involve working in challenging conditions, and candidates should be prepared for a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environment.
