Job Overview:
The WASH Coordinator position is crucial for implementing and overseeing the delegated project portfolios related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives. The role involves managing a team of field staff, ensuring adherence to NRC policies, and contributing to the development of WASH strategies and project proposals. The Coordinator will be responsible for managing and implementing a portfolio of WASH projects, ensuring that they meet the needs of the target beneficiaries while adhering to donor requirements and maintaining high technical quality. Regular progress reporting to the WASH Project Manager is also a key expectation of this role. The Coordinator will work closely with local authorities and stakeholders to promote the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees, ensuring that the projects are effectively addressing the most pressing needs in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing the line staff of WASH project field teams, ensuring compliance with NRC policies and procedures, and contributing to the development of WASH strategies and project proposals. The Coordinator will manage the implementation of WASH activities, including water supply, sanitation, hygiene promotion, cholera preparedness, and solid waste management. They will represent NRC in field-level coordination forums and ensure collaboration with other sectors within NRC to support integrated programming. The Coordinator will also support local implementing partners in planning and monitoring, ensuring accurate and timely reporting from field teams. Additional responsibilities include overseeing procurement processes, ensuring safe construction practices, and promoting community participation in project planning and implementation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the WASH Coordinator position should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience working with WASH projects in humanitarian or recovery contexts. Experience in social work or distribution of humanitarian assistance is advantageous. A minimum of 2 years of experience in community-based water and sanitation programs is required, along with familiarity with international minimum standards for water hygiene and sanitation service delivery. Candidates should have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, and be proficient in computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets. Familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS, ArcGIS, and Google Earth is strongly desirable. The ability to work under pressure and as part of a team is essential.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required for the WASH Coordinator position, typically including a degree in a field related to water, sanitation, hygiene, or a similar discipline. Additional certifications or training in emergency water supply, hygiene, and sanitation protocols would be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 5 years in WASH projects within humanitarian contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing projects and teams, as well as experience in training and capacity building within the sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both written and verbal. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if relevant to the local context in which the WASH projects are being implemented.
