Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of project activities under the guidance of the Protection Coordinator and Protection Specialist. This position involves assisting with day-to-day operations and administrative processes, reporting on challenges and progress, and organizing protection interventions. The role requires direct communication with state and non-state actors involved in protection services. The Protection Assistant will also be responsible for case management, conducting screening interviews, and making referrals for further assistance. Additionally, the position entails maintaining beneficiary profiles, ensuring data is accurately recorded in the IOM database, and facilitating communication with various IOM units. The Protection Assistant will monitor protection cases, conduct field visits, and prepare reports to track the effectiveness of IOM's protection initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant's duties include supporting the implementation of project activities, assisting with administrative processes, and reporting on challenges and progress. The role involves organizing protection interventions, liaising with relevant actors, and assisting with case management activities. Responsibilities also include conducting screening interviews, maintaining beneficiary profiles, and ensuring data is stored in the IOM database. The Protection Assistant will facilitate temporary shelter placements for vulnerable individuals, monitor protection cases, conduct field visits, and prepare timely reports. The effectiveness of the protection initiatives will be measured by the number of cases successfully assisted and resolved, as well as the organization of awareness-raising sessions for project beneficiaries.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields, along with two years of relevant professional experience. Experience in humanitarian affairs, development related to migration, and working with vulnerable populations is essential. Candidates should have experience liaising with government authorities, NGOs, and other institutions, as well as project management and monitoring skills. A solid understanding of protection coordination mechanisms is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, or Law from an accredited institution. The degree should be complemented by professional experience in related areas, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have experience in humanitarian affairs and development related to migration, refugees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Candidates should demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility in their previous roles, with field experience being preferred. Experience in project management, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting is also necessary, along with a demonstrated background in protection programming and working with vulnerable populations in emergency or post-conflict settings.

Languages:
Fluency in French and Haitian Creole is mandatory, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English is desirable but not required. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in the required languages to perform their duties effectively.
