Job Overview:
The consultant will lead the Partnerships, Reports and Communications (PRC) unit at WFP Malawi, playing a crucial role in delivering on the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2024–202
  • This position involves providing high-level strategic, managerial, and technical leadership to the PRC unit, which is essential for maintaining a strong resource base and forging strategic partnerships. The consultant will be responsible for advising senior leadership on engagement strategies, setting team priorities, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products that support fundraising, visibility, and program impact. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including donors, government entities, and the media, to enhance WFP's visibility and effectiveness in addressing humanitarian needs while promoting long-term resilience and food security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership and Unit Management: Provide vision and strategic direction for WFP Malawi’s partnerships, donor relations, reporting, and external communications. Lead and manage a multi-functional team, ensuring clarity of roles and quality deliverables. Promote collaboration across units and represent the PRC function at senior management and UN inter-agency forums. Identify gaps and opportunities in staffing and strategy, providing recommendations to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director.
  • Donor Relations and Resource Mobilisation: Design and implement WFP Malawi’s resource mobilisation strategy, ensuring proactive engagement with donors. Prepare high-level funding proposals and donor pitches, aligning them with donor priorities. Cultivate relationships with non-traditional donors and oversee the preparation of donor reports in coordination with relevant teams.
  • Public Advocacy and Strategic Communications: Lead the design and execution of a strategic communications plan to raise awareness of WFP’s work. Oversee the production of multimedia content and advocacy campaigns, ensuring consistency in messaging. Strengthen relationships with media outlets to position WFP as a credible voice on food security.
  • Capacity Strengthening and Systems Development: Build internal capacity in donor engagement and strategic communication through training and mentoring. Guide the use of digital tools to streamline reporting and knowledge management, fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvement within the PRC unit.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Advanced university degree in International Development, Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field; or a first-level university degree with additional years of relevant professional experience in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Experience: 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in partnerships, donor relations, communications, or resource mobilisation in international development or humanitarian contexts. Demonstrated experience in leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders is essential. Previous experience with the UN system or WFP is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as International Development, Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, or a related area. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with additional relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of international development and humanitarian work, as well as for effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Experience:
The position requires 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in areas such as partnerships, donor relations, communications, or resource mobilisation, particularly within international development or humanitarian contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading teams, influencing senior stakeholders, and coordinating high-level donor relations. Experience in translating complex programmatic concepts into compelling proposals and advocacy narratives is essential, as is familiarity with the UN system or WFP operations.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within WFP. Proficiency in another UN language is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the role. Strong writing and editing abilities for diverse audiences are also crucial, as the consultant will be responsible for producing high-quality external materials and communications.
