Job Overview: The Client Engagement Assistant role is crucial for the UNV Field Unit, where the individual will support the identification, development, and cultivation of partnerships with UN Agencies and Host Entities at the country level. Reporting to the Country Coordinator and under the guidance of the Regional Manager, the assistant will manage relationships with priority partners, ensuring client satisfaction with volunteer services. This position involves regular communication with UN personnel at various levels and requires the ability to work across multiple units and functions to enhance collaboration. The primary goal of this role is to facilitate the sustained mobilization of volunteers to designated partners while ensuring the duty of care for serving volunteers. The assistant will also be responsible for gathering and sharing data that influences mobilization opportunities and bridging the delivery of services from centralized functions of the volunteer management cycle.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in mobilizing volunteers and developing and maintaining partnerships: Support the management of assigned partner accounts and maintain relationships with UN entities to promote UNV’s mandate. Identify volunteer placement opportunities aligned with UN agency strategies and assist in preparing descriptions of assignments. Contribute to the development of tailored offers and initiatives that address partners’ evolving needs for volunteer solutions. Support advocacy campaigns, key events, and communications that raise awareness of volunteerism and highlight impact stories. Collect and analyze data from UN Cooperation Frameworks and agency programmes to identify opportunities for volunteer engagement. Record mobilization opportunities and partnership intelligence in UNV’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system and ensure knowledge is documented and shared. Prepare presentations, mapping, and key messages for engagement with partners and internal use. Act as focal point for online volunteering, supporting host entities in developing OV opportunities, promoting the concept of OV, and assisting with accreditation of OV service organizations.
Support volunteer experience and duty of care: Assist with onboarding and provide ongoing support throughout the volunteer management cycle to ensure a positive experience for all UN Volunteers. Respond to volunteer inquiries, escalate concerns when needed, and gather feedback through surveys or check-ins to inform improvements. Help organize appreciation initiatives and local events that recognize contributions and foster belonging. Support host entities with information on volunteer roles, wellbeing, and enabling instruments. Contribute to duty of care by liaising with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security focal points and coordinating assistance in cases such as medical evacuation. Provide tailored support to peers facing language or integration challenges. Backstop other Field Unit functions during peak periods or staff absences to ensure continuity of service and support.

Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in areas relevant to volunteer management, partnership development, or humanitarian assistance would be advantageous. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of the UN system and its operations, particularly in relation to volunteerism and development.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in partnership management, client engagement, or volunteer coordination. Experience working within the UN system or with international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the principles of volunteerism and its application in development contexts will be beneficial. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing circumstances is essential for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Mali would be an asset, enhancing communication with local partners and volunteers. Candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences effectively.
Additional Notes: The duration of the assignment is 12 months, with a volunteer living allowance (VLA) of 694,120.82 paid monthly. This allowance is intended to cover housing expenses, basic needs, and utility charges. The position is full-time and requires a commitment to the values and principles of the UN, including respect for diversity and inclusion. The role may involve occasional travel within the country to engage with partners and support volunteer activities.
