The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. They work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. Headquartered in Bonn, Germany, UNV has around 150 staff members at headquarters, and 8,500 UN Volunteers deployed in the field.

Job Overview:
The Client Engagement Assistant role is crucial for the UNV Field Unit, focusing on the mobilization and placement of UN Volunteers within UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes. This position involves managing relationships with priority partners, ensuring client satisfaction, and facilitating the delivery of volunteer services. The Assistant will work closely with UN personnel at various levels, contributing to the development of partnerships and volunteer placement opportunities that align with UN agency strategies. The role also includes supporting advocacy campaigns and collecting data to identify volunteer engagement opportunities, thereby enhancing the overall impact of volunteerism in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in mobilizing volunteers and developing and maintaining partnerships by managing assigned partner accounts and promoting UNV’s mandate.
  • Identify volunteer placement opportunities and assist in preparing descriptions of assignments.
  • Contribute to tailored offers and initiatives that address partners’ needs for volunteer solutions.
  • Support advocacy campaigns and communications to raise awareness of volunteerism.
  • Collect and analyze data from UN Cooperation Frameworks to identify volunteer engagement opportunities.
  • Record mobilization opportunities in UNV’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Prepare presentations and key messages for partner engagement.
  • Act as a focal point for online volunteering, supporting host entities in developing opportunities.
  • Assist with onboarding and provide ongoing support to ensure a positive experience for all UN Volunteers. 1
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries and gather feedback for improvements. 1
  • Organize appreciation initiatives and local events for volunteers. 1
  • Liaise with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security focal points and support emergency procedures. 1
  • Provide tailored support to peers facing challenges in their assignments. 1
  • Backstop other functions during peak periods to ensure continuity of service.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong problem analysis and judgment skills, with the ability to understand interrelated elements within a system. Knowledge of the UN system and the ability to apply this knowledge strategically is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate research capabilities to generate useful knowledge relevant to the context. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to tailor messages for different audiences. Additionally, candidates should have a customer service mindset, anticipating client needs and delivering timely solutions. Relationship management skills are crucial for engaging with a diverse range of partners, and event planning abilities are needed to execute public and private events effectively.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in social sciences, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with a strong understanding of volunteerism and development issues will be favored. Additional training or certifications in project management or partnership development can be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in client engagement, partnership development, or a related field. Experience working within the UN system or with international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with volunteer management and advocacy campaigns will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Niger. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Niamey, Niger. The volunteer will be responsible for organizing their own accommodation and living necessities. National UN Volunteers are covered by a comprehensive insurance plan. The role may require flexibility in working hours and the ability to engage with various stakeholders in different contexts.
