IOM has been operational in Papua New Guinea since 2001, addressing complex emergencies and providing humanitarian relief while enhancing the government's capacity for better migration management. The organization operates through its Country Office in Port Moresby and has 12 field offices across the country, focusing on disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and response, peacebuilding, labor mobility, human development, climate change, counter-trafficking, immigration and border governance, legal identity, protection, assisted voluntary return and reintegration, migration health, and more.

Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The program aims to provide interns with practical experience in the field of migration, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. Interns may be required to hold a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations or be sponsored by governmental or non-governmental institutions. The role involves supporting the Supply Chain Unit in various administrative and procurement tasks, ensuring compliance with IOM policies, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for maintaining a filing system for the supply chain unit, which includes organizing and tracking contracts, storing electronic copies of purchase orders, and managing procurement transactions in the Supply Chain SharePoint folder. The intern will also assist in performing minor procurement transactions, preparing requests for quotations, evaluation reports, and purchase orders, as well as submitting payment requests and other procurement documents. Additionally, the intern will support compliance with IOM procurement policies and donor requirements, track invoices, follow up on pending payments, and send remittance advice to vendors. The intern will draft monthly inventory reports, purchase request status reports, and fleet vehicle reports, and will assist in conducting market surveys and vendor assessments. Administrative support tasks will include arranging meetings, taking minutes, and drafting correspondence, as well as liaising with other units and offices within IOM on procurement and administrative matters. The intern may also be assigned other duties by the supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing and Supply Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is essential. Attention to detail, the ability to organize paperwork methodically, and a client-oriented approach are crucial. Candidates should demonstrate discretion, patience, and a willingness to learn new things. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required, along with good interpersonal communication and presentation skills.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Purchasing and Supply Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related area is required. Candidates should either be enrolled in the final academic year of their degree program or have graduated within the last 12 months.

Experience:
While the internship is open to candidates with less than two years of relevant working experience, having at least one year of professional experience in a related field is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in relevant software applications and possess strong organizational skills.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Tok Pisin is also required. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The internship offer is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM provides coverage for interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. However, interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, and discrimination.
