Job Overview:
The position of United Nations Volunteer (UNV) is part of the UNDP SDG2BIH Programme, specifically focusing on the SDG Business Pioneers Award initiative. This role is crucial in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth by engaging with the private sector and supporting them in aligning their operations with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN Volunteer will work directly under the supervision of the Private Sector Engagement Associate, establishing communication with private companies and guiding them through the application process for the SDG Business Pioneers Award 202
  • The role requires a proactive approach to foster relationships with at least 400 sustainable companies, ensuring their meaningful participation in the SDG framework. The UN Volunteer will also maintain detailed records of interactions and feedback related to the award process, contributing to the overall success of the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The United Nations Volunteer will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Establish direct communication with private companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reaching out to potential applicants for the SDG Business Pioneers Award 2025 via phone or email.
  • Provide guidance and support to at least 400 sustainable companies throughout the application process for the SDG BPA 2025, ensuring they understand the requirements and expectations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all contacts made, feedback received, and the various stages of the application process for the SDG BPA.
  • Complete any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall objectives of the SDG2BIH Programme and the UNDP's mission in the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the United Nations Volunteer position should possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with private sector stakeholders. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their approach to problem-solving and be able to work independently while also being a team player. A commitment to the values of accountability, professionalism, and diversity is essential. Familiarity with sustainable development concepts and the SDG framework will be advantageous, as will experience in project management or stakeholder engagement.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required for this position, ideally in fields such as international development, business administration, environmental science, or a related discipline. Candidates should have a solid understanding of sustainable development principles and practices, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be mandated, candidates should ideally have some experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, or working within the private sector. Experience in roles that involve communication and support for sustainable initiatives will be highly regarded. The ability to demonstrate a proactive approach to engaging with diverse stakeholders is crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UNDP and the primary language for communication with international stakeholders. Proficiency in the local language, Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian, is also highly desirable to facilitate effective communication with local companies and stakeholders.

This position is classified as a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The allowances and entitlements provided to UN Volunteers are designed to support a secure standard of living at the duty station, in accordance with United Nations standards. It is important to note that these allowances are not considered compensation or salary for the volunteer's service. The payment of allowances will commence from the date of service commencement, contingent on specific eligibility criteria and the nature of the assignment.
