Job Overview: The position of UN Volunteer Expert involves working within the protection team, specifically focusing on child protection in armed conflict contexts. The role includes supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Country Program, particularly its components related to child protection and peacebuilding. The volunteer will assist in the technical and logistical functioning of the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism on grave violations against children, as outlined in security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council Resolution 161
This includes preparing calls, facilitating meetings, managing membership, and updating files. The volunteer will also manage information within the MRMIMS+ system and Power-Bi, ensuring accurate documentation and analysis of grave violations, and generating reports and infographics as needed. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government counterparts and civil society, to strengthen capacities and support the implementation of strategies for prevention and response to grave violations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Country Program – Axis 3 of the Protection Team, focusing on child protection in armed conflicts and peacebuilding.
Provide programmatic, administrative, and logistical support to the technical secretariat of the Special Team of the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism of Resolution 1612, including preparation of calls, facilitation and reporting of meetings, membership management, and communication with members.
Manage information for the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism in MRMIMS+ and Power-Bi, including tracking, verification, and documentation of grave violations, updating cases in the database, analyzing trends, and generating reports.
Assist in drafting inputs for periodic reports required by the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism.
Strengthen the capacities of Special Team members and other partners in the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism.
Provide programmatic, administrative, and logistical support to the technical secretariat of the Friends Group on children and armed conflict.
Support technical and logistical organization of advocacy meetings with government counterparts and civil society.
Monitor administrative and financial contracts with implementing partners and service providers.
Conduct field missions as necessary. 1
Prepare narrative and financial reports for donors. 1
Participate in internal UNICEF meetings and processes. 1
Undertake any other activities assigned by the supervisor. Additionally, UN Volunteers are encouraged to engage with the VNU program's mandate and promote volunteer action in their communities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the principles of volunteerism, including solidarity, compassion, reciprocity, and autonomy. They should possess strong organizational and communication skills, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to continuous learning. Competencies such as teamwork, accountability, and sustainability are essential for this role.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social sciences, international relations, human rights, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may enhance the candidate's profile.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in child protection, humanitarian work, or related fields. Experience working with UN agencies or NGOs in conflict-affected areas is highly desirable. Familiarity with monitoring and reporting mechanisms on child rights violations is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and proficiency in English is highly desirable. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the context may be beneficial.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is as indicated, with the possibility of extensions subject to funding availability, operational needs, and satisfactory performance. The position requires full availability and exclusivity with the United Nations system. The monthly living allowance is COP $8,515,500, which covers housing, services, and ordinary living expenses. Volunteers are responsible for securing their own housing and essentials. The position includes life, health, and permanent disability insurance, as well as final repatriation if applicable. National UN Volunteers are part of the damage insurance plan for intentional damages.
