Job Overview: The EpiC Tajikistan Laboratory Specialist will play a crucial role in managing laboratory system strengthening activities within the EpiC project, which is focused on achieving HIV epidemic control and enhancing global healthsecurity" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security in Tajikistan. This position requires a proactive individual who can provide technical support to the Ministry of Health and its divisions, develop and implement strategies to improve laboratory services, and ensure that the project meets its objectives. The specialist will be responsible for leading the development of guidelines and policies, participating in technical discussions, and ensuring that laboratory services are of high quality and aligned with national health objectives. This role is vital for enhancing the capacity of laboratories to detect and respond to public health threats, including zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the EpiC Tajikistan Laboratory Specialist include providing strategic leadership for the laboratory component of the project, collaborating with national and international partners, and offering technical assistance to fulfill national health objectives. The specialist will lead the implementation of strategies to strengthen laboratory capacities, provide advisory services to national reference laboratories, and ensure compliance with international standards such as ISO 1518
Responsibilities also include updating diagnostic algorithms, supporting the implementation of laboratory information management systems, and providing on-the-job training and technical assistance. The specialist will monitor project performance against timelines and objectives, coordinate with finance and program teams, and represent the project in various forums. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, laboratory sciences, or a related field, with a specialization in bacteriology, infectious diseases, or public health. A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred. Applicants should have at least five years of experience in laboratory systems strengthening programs, demonstrating problem-solving skills and knowledge of the public health context in Tajikistan. Experience in developing guidelines, conducting training, and working with government officials, particularly the Ministry of Health, is highly desirable. Fluency in English and Tajik is required, while proficiency in Russian is preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, laboratory sciences, or a related field. Additional Notes: This position is based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and is open to citizens of Tajikistan or individuals with legal authority to work in the country.
