Job Overview:
The Accessibility Resources Consultant will work closely with the UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to support the implementation of a project aimed at enhancing accessibility in urban development training. This role involves providing Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpretation for a course titled 'Ten Principles of MCR2030 (Making Cities Resilient 2030)', which is scheduled to run from January to March 202
  • The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that all materials are accessible and compatible with distance learning platforms, thereby facilitating the inclusion of individuals with hearing impairments in urban development discussions. The consultant will report to the Head of the Brazil Office and will be evaluated based on their performance in fulfilling the responsibilities outlined in the Term of Reference. The consultant is expected to produce reports, maintain an accessible shared archive, and ensure timely delivery of all resources in collaboration with the UN-Habitat technical team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accessibility Resources Consultant will have several key responsibilities, including: 1) Providing necessary software, equipment, and workspace to carry out the consultancy effectively. 2) Producing required reports that document the progress and outcomes of the consultancy. 3) Delivering Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpretation for video materials associated with the course. 4) Organizing and maintaining an accessible shared archive of all produced materials. 5) Ensuring that all materials are compatible with distance learning platforms and properly named for easy access. 6) Submitting all resources within agreed deadlines set by the UN-Habitat technical team. The consultant will also be responsible for completing all required courses and training activities as directed by their supervisor, including a mandatory security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course (BSAFE) during the first month of employment. The consultant must familiarize themselves with United Nations security mechanisms and comply with them as per the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Portuguese Language and Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Film Studies, or related fields. Alternatively, candidates with an additional three years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirement may also be considered. The consultant must possess excellent speaking, writing, and proofreading skills in Portuguese, along with good computer skills in Windows, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and web search engines. The consultant should demonstrate professionalism, strong planning and organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Portuguese Language and Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Film Studies, or a related discipline. Alternatively, candidates with three additional years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirement may be considered eligible for the position.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of professional experience working with Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) is required. Additionally, candidates should have experience in preparing accessibility resources for capacity building and professional training, particularly within the public sector. This experience is crucial for ensuring that the consultant can effectively contribute to the project's goals and deliverables.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position. Working knowledge of Spanish and English is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office.

Additional Notes:
The position is part-time (20%) with a total remuneration of BRL 5,000, distributed across two payments: 30% upon delivery and approval of the first product (BRL 1,500) and 70% upon delivery and approval of the second product (BRL 3,500). The appointment is on a local basis, and only nationals from Brazil or external candidates holding a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The contract's extension is subject to the availability of funds and performance, and any extension is not guaranteed.
