Job Overview: The Junior Information Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Social Territories Programme in Rio de Janeiro. This position involves close collaboration with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams, reporting directly to the Head of the Brazil Office. The assistant will be responsible for various tasks related to data collection, analysis, and reporting, which are essential for understanding and addressing urban poverty and integrating vulnerable populations into the city's fabric. The role requires participation in capacity-building activities, data processing, and the maintenance of information files, ensuring that all activities align with UN-Habitat's quality expectations. The position is expected to last for three months, during which the assistant will contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for the urban poor in Rio de Janeiro.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Information Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Supporting the organization of capacity-building activities for government teams involved in the Social Territories Programme. 2) Assisting in the elaboration and calculation of urban and environmental data variables and indicators. 3) Extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases, presenting findings in various formats such as tables and graphs. 4) Providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management. 5) Analyzing results with a territorial perspective to aid public policy planning. 6) Accompanying research activities related to favelas and urban communities. 7) Revising results of the Multidimensional Poverty Index in these areas. 8) Maintaining organized information files. 9) Ensuring timely delivery of tasks and supporting technical teams with data analysis and monitoring. 10) Conducting quality control on collected data and preparing reports for partners and internal stakeholders. 11) Completing a Monthly Activity Report and undertaking required training courses, including a security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or an additional two years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirement. A Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Geography, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, or related fields is desirable. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in research or project management in urban areas, with a focus on data analysis and public policy implementation in favelas and urban communities being particularly advantageous. Experience working with the United Nations is also desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma as a minimum. However, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Public Policy, Geography, Social Sciences, or Urban Studies will be preferred. Additional qualifications or certifications related to data analysis or urban studies may enhance a candidate's profile.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in research and/or project management, particularly in urban settings. Candidates should have professional experience related to data analysis, information management, and public policy implementation, especially in contexts involving favelas and urban communities. Previous experience with the United Nations or similar organizations is considered a plus.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, given the local context of the work. A working knowledge of English is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for three months. The remuneration for the role is set at SB-2/3, amounting to BRL 3,601.63 (net amount). The appointment is on a local basis, meaning only nationals from Brazil or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply.
